    spiritually, there's a midrash about counting and measuring, i can try to find it if you're interested.

    This is reflected in many congregations. The famous quorum of 10 is tallied by counting hats, coats, anything but the people themselves. For support in the Torah, it's in ex 30:11, the part about avoiding a plague.

    thanx...although I'm typically an atheist, I do appreciate the defense of her religion.
    The rejection of getting blood does bother me a bit...but it's their religion !
