Good Question. I am a Shaiva Hindu, meaning I am a follower of the Shiva tradition, or basically what gets called Tantra. This image is a very popular image called "Ardhanarishvara" where Shiva is depicted as half man and half female. It represents a Tantrik philosophy, that the supreme being is both Shiva and Shakti, where Shiva is the masculine aspect and Shakti the feminine.
Spirit_Warrior, I want to read your posts but you make them so long that my interest is lost because of that. Other members also may be having the same problem. Could I humbly request you to make shorter posts (just like the notes that we wrote in our school/college days)? Short, incisive posts are the trick on internet forums. Best regards.

    Aup.

I recall what Pascal once said at the end of a letter "I am sorry for this long letter, I did not have time to be brief" :p

    Hi,
I apologize if some of the things I wrote in my reply come of as a bit hostile. I sometimes have a tendency to adopt a polemical tone. But I stand by the substantive points of what I have said. I consider you to be very well read and its a bit unfair that you have to reply to all of us at the same time. Wish you the best. :)
