hehe, just noticed that you didn't write the whole word.

Always interesting that your mind often sees what it expects to see rather than what is actually there.

i've often found myself doing that :) I once thought noodles was not in my pantry, looked inside and did not find them. Mum checked, pointed to it, lo and behold it was right in front of me! Ah the subjectivity of reality :D
    Happy Birthday Augustus. :)

    Thanks for the birthday greetings.

It's not really my birthday though, I never give accurate personal information to websites ;)

Hey Augustus, I just had a couple of questions about your views, if you wouldn't mind answering. I see in many of your posts the mention of "fictions" that we all believe to be true (such as a 'singular humanity'). I was wondering if you could tell me other ideas that you believe to be "fictions" and why so? And of course, if you have a thread/post that elaborates on this, please let me know! Thanks!

Wow, that was certainly a lot more than I expected! Thanks for the in-depth reply, and I'll definitely check out that thread.

Before I answer your question, do you mind elaborating more? I want to make sure I answer you correctly.

In the universal monotheisms, 'we are all god's creatures' so share a common bond of humanity and a common purpose. The Pagan Romans had no such concepts though, so Romans didn't share a common 'humanity' with 'barbarians'.

In Hinduism, all living entities are "God's creatures" so humanity is not special in that regard. It is idealistic in the sense that bodily differences are secondary to the spiritual similarity among humans (soul etc), but it acknowledges that not everyone will have the same views.
Are you a historian? I enjoy reading your posts here.

I'm most interested in Classical and Late Antiquity. Mostly late antiquity, especially early Islam. Unfortunately, it is ridiculously complex so the more I read, the less I know. I never like sticking to one particular topic and it just ends up throwing cat after cat amongst the pigeons. I live in SE Asia.
