Random Acts Of Kindness

Hmmm...does holding the door open for people count?
Yes...carrdero does it all the time. We would exit/enter a mall or any place and
he would hold the door for me. I would turn around and he is not there. I look
towards the exit/entrance and there he is, holding the door for others. Sometimes
he would be there for minutes. I am surprised he hasn't gotten a tip for being the
doorman.

I work with the mentally ill. My kindness makes them feel loved and makes them
feel like they have a place in this sometimes horrible world. My kindness just
comes from the heart. I hand out kindness so much that I forget about me.
To me, others are imporant. I come last.

I can share three financial acts of kindness that I have done. They were all done annonamosly.

A check out lady at the grocery store was not her usual happy self. Although I don't know her personally I often wound up on her line. I teased her about her glum attitude and she said, "I have a right to be miserable, my husband died two days ago of a massive heart attack!" My breath was taken away. I said that she should be home, not working,to which she replied, "Well someone has to pay the bills." A few days later when I got paid I went to the store and saw her working. I bought a card filled it out and put $100 in it and signed it "Just a little something to help you out" With Love, God. I went out of the store and came back in and asked one of her co-workers to wait til I left the store and then give her the card, but don't ever tell her who it was from. I know money could never make her feel happy, but I hoped it would help with the bills. It was coincidently Valentines Day, so maybe she felt like it was a gift of love from her husband. Who knows?

Another thing I have done is put money in an envelope with a letter to my local pharmacist. I explained that he would know who might not be able to afford their prescriptions this month, and he should use it to help someone out. I ask that he give the person the letter also. In the letter I address the person receiving the gift and ask them to help someone else out the next time they have an opportunity. Kind of like "Pay it forward"

The third thing is to put money in a card and leave it in the pew at church. On the outside of the envelope I wrote, "Look! This is for you. Yes you, the one who is reading this right now, (no this isn't Candid Camera)" I also put a small note in the card like, " I've always loved to see your smile." Love, God.

Some may wonder how I know that the pharmacist will use it for someone else or just put it in his pocket. Well the bottom line is, if he needs it, then so be it. I also put cards with money on busses or in taxi's. I have faith that God will give it to someone who needs it. I always speak a prayer to God before I do this.

These are purely selfish acts of kindness, for I am the one who is blessed with joy at doing such things. I am not rich by any standard, but I am blessed abundantly with the ability to work and receive a paycheck every two weeks. I have a roof over my head, and food in the fridge, what more do I need? I can certainly share and make someone happy for a few moments. Hopefully it will inspire them to do something similar.

There are lots of little ways to do a kindness for people, it doesn't have to be with money. I pull down the paper towel roll in the rest room for the next person at work. It is a little thing but the funny thing is, now when I go to the rest room I find the paper towel pulled down for me too! It's catching!:)

One of my bosses drives two hrs. to work every day. He is a great guy and works very hard, so I make sure his coffee cup is washed out and waiting for him. It is also a little thing, but he always smiles. I also make sure there is a fresh pot of coffee on the burner so no one comes in the kitchen and has to get ticked off because someone left an empty pot. I guess I just want to make everything good all the time, if I can. Sorry for rambling on. I can't wait to hear what you all do. "Cmon, RF inspire me!

Today I changed an misspelled title on a thread. Did anyone notice? I think smiling and being friendly to people is a biggie. If a neighbor is away I take care of their newspapers. I bring candy to work for the office workers. Deeply listening is another biggie. I like to compliment people and give them pats on the back. I turn items I have found into the nearest lost and found. I tell cashiers when they are overpaying me.

Yes, I try to.
But I would rather not say what they were as that would negate them in my mind.

I have set up a few anonymous Yahoo accounts like [email protected] and I will send out encouraging "Love Bombs", where I praise their positive traits and tell them how much I appreciate them. You guys are the first ones to know about this! :D

I also do the networking for a few churches for free and host a number of non-profit domains for free.

Yesterday I gave a guy money for the parking meter, cause he had no change, then I let someone go before me in the line at the ATM, cause he looked like he was in a hurry. I hold doors open for people a lot, one of my friends ribs me for being a 'gentleman'.

I bought a cherry candle tonight for the lady at the little store I stop at every day.

She burns a cherry scented candle on the counter whenever she`s working and I noticed it was almost burned away today.

Shre`s just always so nice to me and my family, I thought I`d show her I appreciate it.

The store also smells so much better when she works so it might not have been entirely selfless.

Today I let 2 people cut me in line at the super market since they had fewer items
them I. The express lane was long. An elderly woman was struggling to
push her cart towards her car so I asked her if she would like me to push
it for her and she was very greatful. Hope she will have someone waiting
for her at home to help her bring the groceries in.

Only if you look at it that way. To me this thread is actually a source of inspiration; I used to be a lot better at the "random acts of kindness" than I am now. I am appreciating the all the ideas that I am getting from reading the posts and I have even been surprised by the character of one or two people…

My favorite act of kindness (I had actually forgotten about it until I started thinking after I read this thread) was when a guy and girl came into the coffee shop I was working at to get lunch and it turned out that the guy had lost his wallet and the girl had no money so I took care of it for them…

The best thing that ever happened to me in terms of random kindness was when I got fired a few years back. Obviously I was really upset so I decided to get some dinner and try and calm myself down. Needless to say I wasn’t very successful and ended up crying most of the way through my meal at Chilies. I guess that my waiter felt bad for me so he picked up the tab. He had already been such a great server; bending over backwards for me and it totally took me by surprise.

So to add to the thread…what random acts of kindness have been done for you??
