I just received a phone call from Mario (yes, the plumber) and he was calling from my local game store to remind that his new game SUPER MARIO GALAXY for the Wii that I had preordered arrived and for me to come pick it up. The thing that tipped me off that this was a recording was when I let him finish his "schpiel" (spelling?) I demanded that he put Princess Peach on the phone but the recording just looped itself. Still, Mario calling my house to preach the cool news somehow made my day.

That's cool, tell us if the what for Mario was worth it my friend. I say a X-Play special of it last night and it looks great.

for all the gamers in the house what games have you recently gotten into?

The most recent is the PC game Galactic Civilizations. I also play the MMORPG Everquest II.

What is your favorite game ever?

Tough one. I'll say Ultima Underworld. I have gotten possibly the most pure satisfaction out of this one, and its sequel.

But I almost have to say the first computer game I ever played, which was SPACWR. This was written in OS/8 Basic, and I played it on a PDP-8e machine. I played this in highschool, and I would run to the computer room after classes to play it. I have made my own clone of this game on my PC in C#.

Other big favorites are:

CRPGs: Wizardry (I-III), Ultima (II-IV), Bard's Tale (I), Might and Magic IV (Clouds of Xeen and Darkside of Xeen), and various rogue-style games.

Strategy: Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri, Civilization (II-III), Warcraft II.

Action: Descent, Doom, Shadow Warrior.

Arcade: Space Invaders, Galaxians, Phoenix, Spy Hunter, Space Wars

Scott Adams Text Adventures(!!!): The Count, Golden Voyage, Pyramid of Doom, Savage Island (which I never beat).

I am writing a personal hobbyist version of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for myself in C#.

Are you a console person or a PC person, or both?

PC, though I would like to get an Xbox.

Has no one ever played 'God of War, or 'God of War II?'

...I think it's time I confess I enjoy the series (anxiously awaiting the third installment), despite it's incredibly violent nature.

I played God of War 1 for the PS2 and loved it. Just a few more months before God Of War II comes down to $19.99 and I will snatch it. There is even a prequel coming out for the PSP that looks great but it will be years before I will get my hands on it.

IGN is calling it a true spiritual sequel to Mario 64, the platform of the year and a very good reason to own a Wii system. I'm just glad it incorportates a two-player option so now mrscardero can play and help me out.

PHONE: Brriinnng!!! Briinnngg!!

Cardero: Hello.

PHONE: It'sa me, a Mario!

Sure did. ;)
They didn't tell me about it when I pre-ordered. Probably thought I was an old man and wouldn't know or be interested in the free giveaways. I found out about it 2 weeks ago on IGN and told mrscardero when she picked it up today not to forget the free collector medallion. Mrscardero cited the conversation as follows:

MRSCARDERO: I'm here to pick up my husband's reserved copy of SUPER MARIO GALAXY.

CLERK: Yes of course I need your phone number.

MRSCARDERO: Yes its 555-5555.

CLERK: Patrick?

MRSCARDERO: That's right.

CLERK: (just giving her the game) and here you go.

MRSCARDERO: um..is there supposed to some kind of commerative coin that comes with this?

CLERK: Oh yes, I almost forgot, thanks for reminding me.

MRSCARDERO: (chuckling) He wouldn't let me come home without it.

See, GAMESTOP was hoping we forget about it so that they could sell it on eBay!!!

Then she brought the coin home and we are trying to discern if there is any metal at all in this coin. Very disappointing. What would have really been cool is if they offered a promotional like they did for Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker for gamecube. If you pre-ordered the game, they gave you the N64 version for Gamecube of Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They should have included Super Mario 64 with this deal, then I could save my Wii points for another game at the online store.

That honestly wouldn't surprise me. They've been known to sell opened games as new ones.

Great gameplay for what it has. But I found it too linear and too short to be considered a masterpiece.

Question. I've played GTA: San Andreas (BEST. PS2. GAME. EVER.) but not Vice City. Is Vice City too old to be enjoyable, or is it still worth the investment?

I've got Assassin's Creed on Saturday. I love this game, playing an Assassin during the 3rd Crusade 1191 is great.
