Jesus will return like a thief in the night. What do you think this actually means? How do you interpret it?

I couldn't agree more LightkeeperLightkeeper said:I look on it as an inner process, a return to wholeness. When you are open and unexpecting this will happen.

I really like that thought. It seems that the things you want most to happen in life always happen at a point when you stop dwelling on it. My personal example is when I met my fiance. I was going to concentrate on my studies and not worry about getting involved with anyone. I actually followed through with that instead of just pay it lip service, too. Next thing I know, I met this wonderful woman and all I wanted to do was spend time with her and forget about my studies.Lightkeeper said:I look on it as an inner process, a return to wholeness. Kind of like how students act before a test, too! Don't study....don't study...don't study...Uh-oh! Test tomorrow!huajiro said:I think it was to make people try to prepare.....if we were told exactly when he was coming.....we would all sin like crazy and then repent the night before.....kind of how many people do on weekends before Church.
What if the test was always there to begin with. It's a matter of you being ready to take it.cfer said:Kind of like how students act before a test, too! Don't study....don't study...don't study...Uh-oh! Test tomorrow!
This is all metaphor concealing inner truth.fromthe heart said:I agree with Maize...we won't know the day, time or the hour. Jesus will appear in the clouds. Matthew 24:29 gives us a hint of the second coming...it says immediately after tribulation the sun will not shine and the moon will not give light, the stars of heaven will fall and the powers of the heaven will be shaken. 30.then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, the tribes of earth will mourn and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory. 31. He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet and the angels will gather the elect from all over the world. It also goes on to say what will happen to those who are not gathered up.

The kingdom will not come to you if you are watching for it. It cannot be observed with physical eyes. It is already here, it's a matter of you entering this kingdom. But just as Jesus said, truly, only few find this kingdom.NKJ said:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Those who say, "I am Jesus", or say "look, he is here" is ultimately driven by ego. They do not know who Christ is. Christ's coming will not be a physical arrival, however you will know when he is here because it will be evident, and you will not need to wonder. However, only those who are watching (not in flesh but in spirit) will see his coming. Those who are carnally minded, Christ will come as a thief, those who are asleep in the dust of the earth. On that day, he will break in and steal all thier possessions out from under them. They will be left naked and exposed in shame. People measure themselves with their possessions, with their riches, with their education, they measure themselves with names, but all these finite things will pass away. What then, do we have left to measure ourselves? Each and every one of us is utterly made low, utterly humiliated. That great city called Babylon will be in flames. Those who fatten the flesh leave their spirit cold, naked, and in starvation. That is how they will find themselves on that day.NKJ said:Luke 17:22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. 23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. 24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

This is a riddle. From my interpretation i will give you a hint. Jesus is speaking of the twofold nature. That being the flesh and the spirit, represented by two men in one bed, two women grinding together, two men in the field. When you find the kingdom, you will also find a carcass. The world is a carcass. When you find it, you will be held accountable, do not turn back to it, or you will be like Lot's wife and you will harm your soul. The truth will break your entire existence in half. Some tremble, others rejoice. That is why the secret, has been kept a secret, and only revealed to those who are qualified to know. In the end, the secret and mysteries of God will be revealed to all. People will be flocked to this kingdom.NKJ said:33 Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left." 37 And they answered and said to Him, "Where, Lord?" So He said to them, "Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together."
