The Rapture a Glorious Event

I read all comments in all my threads. No need to comment on every post.

For instance, Willamena's post 242 I've read but don't have a response I feel comfortable with...

Most of the time it's better to say little or nothing at all..

But isn't that the whole point of a discussion board/forum, to discuss and debate what you and other are saying.
It would make for a more interesting thread and people would be more likely to respond and maybe even listen to you...
But hey thats just my 2 cents...

The term "rapture," was first coined by a woman in the 1800's, to describe this Biblical event (the first resurrection/catching away of the saints, from off this earth, at Chrst's first and second appearing in the clouds), which was spoken of by Christ, to his disciples, when they asked about the end of the world.

So she was right then, the "rapture" is a fairly recent concept given how long the earth/man has been around...

Again, no, the term used to describe this event has only been used since the 1800's. The event this term refers to was described by Jesus Christ while he was on earth. The concept is as old as Christ who is the beginning and the ending. He had this all planned out from the beginning of time...or rather the Father did, with Christ acting under the direction of the Father, who will decide when the first rapture (first resurrection) will occur. Christ does not know the exact time when he will appear in the clouds at the time of the first resurrection (rapture) until He is sent by the Father, to "gather the elect from the four corners of the earth".

Please read Matthew 24 (Joseph Smith inspired version)

It's not a new concept, just a new term used in recent years, very heavily, to describe an event, the first resurrection of the saints, which Christ spoke of when he was on earth...

Rapture - Wiki

I have posted all the relative scriptures in this thread...

There is one in Daniel but it's much more obscure, will post it though...

You post all the pertinent scriptures that flood my mind also, but this is something that you persist in posting that I obviously disagree with and can't understand why you persist in this teaching....
Because you can not follow Christ and these 3 Pharisees and if you knew who Christ was or listened to his words, you would realize this....

If we're going by how old some thing to make it true now my friend, the yes the Rapture is new, well when you look at Ragnarok it's been around way long then Christ. But the old something doesn't matter right ^_^

I don't see the OP verses as absolutly tied to the Rapture. I think the following parable tells us better what will happen:
Mat. 22:1 ¶ And Jesus answered and spake again in parables unto them, saying,
2 The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,
3 and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.
4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;
6 and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.
7 But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast.
10 And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests.
11 But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding–garment:
12 and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding–garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few chosen.

.......to attend the wedding feast......

Rev 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunders, saying, Hallelujah: for the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigneth.
7 Let us rejoice and be exceeding glad, and let us give the glory unto him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright and pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they that are bidden to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are true words of God.
14 And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and pure.
17
And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid heaven, Come and be gathered together unto the great supper of God;

Granted the parable did not say where the people were gathered to but here is the wedding feast taking place in the heaven.

Great scripture !!

It gave me great encouragement the other day when someone I was talking to on the phone, who was praying for me, said goodbye by saying, "I'll see ya at the banquet table" (the wedding feast/the supper of the Lamb) ... :)

I thought that was cool that he had said that, because he didn't even know me or what I believed, I had only been talking with him for a few minutes, he just felt impressed to say that I guess. I hope I'll be worthy to attend the wedding feast.

I'm surprised you believe in this also, not many do...good to know we won't be alone at the table...:)

What benefit is there to interpreting scripture literally, as that the fire is a real fire that will sweep the earth? Doesn't sound very beneficial, least not to those who will survive, if any.

Whatever the benefit, I'm sure those who believe in a non-literal meaning for scripture find at least as much benefit.

Suppose I had a neighbor who said I had a fiery house and I decided to interpret that symbolically. Then I would be less inclined to run out of the house and be saved from the fire. So it is with the warnings of the destruction of the earth by fire, that we should heed those warnings and be all the more ready to depart from this world when the opportunity comes.

Matt. 24: 17
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

Mark 13: 15
15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:

Luke 17: 31
31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

Again the destruction of the earth and the rapture are not the same event even though they are tied together in purpose. There is no time limit given for the process of gathering people up. Knowing God, He is likely to give people time to think about it. Some people take longer to decide. However for anyone left behind, the destruction of the earth is what they face and although the word seems to indicate that half of the people left behind might survive, I tend to think that is only an illustration of how disasters work not an indication of how many will survive.

If you were to interpret it literally when he meant it figuratively, you could end up freezing your butt off in the snow because you think your house is on fire when it isn't. This situation isn't exactly pleasant itself; it's only "good" when compared to the unpleasantness of a house fire.

IMO, if you make preparing for the next life the sole focus of your current one, you'll end up with a pretty sorry Earthly life. If there is a next life, that may be okay, but if there isn't, you'll have thrown away everything you ever had and could ever be.

There always seems to be some joker crying fire when there isn't one. History is replete with instances of people who have sat on a mountain waiting to be raptured. I tend to think that the call to be gathered will be audible so that everyone can hear it, not some inner voice or someones calculation of when it should happen.

LOL, My wife likes the qoute "so heavenly minded that he is no earthly good." I do believe in working until Jesus comes because that is what He expects of us.
