The Indestructible Christ

If Jesus didn't give up his life for us on the cross would he of lived for ever?

Did Jesus have the power to walk through walls before the resurrection?

The Church is said to be Christ's body. What does that mean?

Anything else concerning Jesus' body?

I'm fairly certain that most Christians believe that Jesus was divine in essence, that is, it is held that he had a perfect soul, as it was in unity with a distinguishable, yet inseperable, God, however he had corporiality nonetheless, which made him Man with a truly divine soul. In short, I do not think that many Christians actually believe that his body was perfect, for such an idea is insensible and unrealistic, however his 'soul', indeed, would be perfect, if he truly is God.

no, he would have died like anyone else (or possibly acsend straight into heaven at the end of his life, since only "sinners" die.)

The whole basis of the christian religon is that the son of God, became one of us a man, in all aspects, to die on the cross. He had fear like us, (he really didn't want to go on the cross, thust the famous qoute, father, why have you forsaken me) and he had mortality like us, after the resurection was a completly different story. The only difference betoween "human" jesus and us, is his "innocence(lack of sin) and his 100% faith in God.

If Jesus didn't give up his life for us on the cross would he of lived for ever?

His destiny was the Cross always - so a bit of a non-question, but, no, he would not have lived forever as He took on the totality of the human condition, which includes death.

Did Jesus have the power to walk through walls before the resurrection?

No. Again, he was fully human.

The Church is said to be Christ's body. What does that mean?

Best read 1 Corinthians and go from there.

Christ's 'mission' is the Salvation of mankind through His death and resurrection - or put another way, there was never any other end in view but the Cross.

As you rightly point out, He is like us in every way, except sin.

He was more than human after the Resurrection, and this is one of my personal areas of inquiry - but it's not a simple or quick discussion - but as brief as I can make it, Christ, although fully human, could nevertheless appear and disappear; could pass through solid surfaces - and could determine who saw Him, and what they saw.

There is Scriptural evidence to suggest that He did not look exactly the same as before He died, because those He spoke to failed to recognise Him initially, until He spoke to them, which suggests to me that He had not only a 'control' of His own appearance, but a 'control' over how He appeared and to whom.

I would say that whereas before His death he was subject to the limitations of His humanity (uncertainty, hunger, thirst, pain, etc) after His resurrection He was fully human but had transcended those limitations of humanity that continue to bind us.

St Paul talks of the resurrection of the body incorruptible, a mystery yet to be revealed, but it's foundation is here.

Please consider returning to the forum, I would like to discuss in detail your feelings and opinions of the metaphysical aspect of Christianity.

The request was for you mainly, Thomas, because of your profile interest.
I have been reading the Gospel of Thomas and I see the metaphysical aspects of
his writing. I have also read an account of Mary Magdelan's last days. I am sure that you understand my quandry. I was raised Southern Baptist. Not much recommendation for the Spiritualistic study of God's Word. I am sure that we will agree to disagree on many things but I do believe that your study is sincere. I am also interested in Paul's description of the 7 heavens. Please do consider reaching with me as I seek to raise my level of conscienciousness in this arena.

Thomas I to would like to hear of these 7 heavens and I would like to hear more about the Catholic belief because it is the only religion I dont understand why they do certain things.
