So if man is responsible for everything, what is god good for. It seems to me that the relationship is rather one sided. Man worships in ernest and assumes that anything good that befalls him is the result of a kind god who has provided for him in one way or another. Anything bad in the world is the result of mans failure to follow the word of god and is therefor just too bad. It just seems to me that this is a convienient explanation to justify every scenario. I understand that many are comforted by their faith and I'm happy for them. When I wrote the original post I guess I was angry and lashing out. I'm truly sorry for offending anyone. This frustration is the result of suffering many years of debilitating depression with no apparant end in sight. I have prayed for help offering anything and everything possible, to no avail. I guess I'm just tired and wondering that if there is a god why I don't deserve just a little help.

You're looking at god through a glass, darkly; the filter's caption is 'mythology'. If you stick around these forums long enough, you might just find some light.

(If you can put up with the frequent server lags.)

Creation was God's purpose. Man, who has the power of acting on his own will [whatever the physical form might be] is the reason for Creation.

We are here to choose. So, choose--but bear responsibility for that choice--like a man, not a whining child.

Scott

When did your depression start? What set it off? Was it a fault of yours? A fault of another? Have you focused more on covering the pain then finding out where it's coming from? These are the kinds of questions that help. I have never seen the "God's a *******, why won't he help me?" mindset ever work out.

IMO you do deserve help. Help, like the atrocities you list in your first post, comes from the actions of humans. Depression can be devestating, and I don't know enough about it to give you any kind of answer myself except to say that family, friends and medicine can possibly help, at least a little.

Hoping for your safe passage through your dark night.

Perhaps if your initial list included:
Rainbows, Medical advances, childbirth, rain forests, education, sacrifice, love, pizza, sex, and other positive things, this wouldn't be such a silly debate.

YOU are the one who chose to focus on only the negative. You don't have to.

I think pizza would fall under "man-made", but then again, it's pizza...it must have begun with Divine inspiration. :cloud9:
