Protesters stop Hindu prayer in Senate

Since we are talking about the hindu prayers in the Senate, I thought I would post the text. I have posted it in an other topic also.

The three hindu prayers in American Senate:

Bhurbhuvah swah, tat savituh varenyam,
Bhargo devasya dhīmahi, dhiyoyonah prachodayāt.

(That desirable effulgence, of earth, sky, and heavens,
May we know its glory, may it stimulate our minds.)

Asatomā Sadgamaya,
Tamasomā Jytirgamaya,
Mrutyormā Amrutamgamaya.

(From untruth, (may) I go to truth,
From darkness, (may) I go to brightness,
From death, ((may) I go to immortality.)

The third prayer is for a teacher and student, or a congregation discussing something (like a Senate).

Saha nāvavatu, saha nau bhunaktu,
Saha vīryam karavāvahi,
Tejasvi nāvadhītamastu, mā vidvishāvahī.

(May we protect each other, may we be nourished together,
May we work together with great vigour,
May our study be brilliant, may there be no hatred between us.)

I thank all people here who condemn the wrong action.

I am sure Jesus and his Father--God are pleased with his people taking a stand against idol worship.

You might have at least bothered to read the contents of the prayers before making a comment like this, most particularly since there is no mention of any gods.

Yes, what terrible unChristian sentiments those are. :sarcastic

And I would hope there would no qualm should there be any mention of the Gods.

Unless they really are un-Christian statements.

I would append that to include fundamentalism and evangelism in atheism as well.

Ya know, I don't think I've ever seen a TV show pushing atheism to my knowledge, nor have I seen violent acts done strictly in the name of atheism. State persecution of some religions in other countries is more of a political power play than evangelizing for "atheism".

And in situations where religion and state are combined, the state persecution of minority religions is more of a political power play than evangelizing for the established religion. It's the same all around.

It's a good thing we Hindus worship murtis and not idols. It's a good thing too that all the statues of Jesus in the churches are not considered idols.

Well that's diffrent then me I see Jesus as the light in an otherwise dark world, but I don't think I'm better than other people or look down on people from other religions, I'm no better than they are, however I would like them all to know how Christ gave his life for our sins and rose again.

so does everyone else, about their own respective gods. and we also dont think we are better than anyone. "however I would like them all to know how Christ gave his life for our sins and rose again" its not wrong to convey your message but the question is, would you like to know why they believe what they believe and what makes them not following jesus?

wow .... its funny sometimes .... some (not all) christians see other religions as idol worshipers or fake god worshipers when in fact other religions see the same exact thing about christians.

i dont see any problems with this prayer. they sound genuinely universal. i wonder if these verses come out of a christian, will there be any protesters? i'm living with christian families, when they cite their prayers, even if they say prayers to jesus, i just substitute it to my god. the content of the prayer is similar to what i would've cited. no big deal about it. same goes when i cite my prayers, they substitute my god to their jesus.

That's called knowing how to translate. Different languages, same meaning. Why can't other people get that through their heads, I wonder.

The Senate chambers have clearly been corrupted by this brouhaha.

There's nothing for it but to purify the chambers and senators with sandalwood incense and a liberal sprinkling of cow's urine, and start over.

I'd settle for burning a bit of sage.
