Elvis met with LDS missionaries just prior to his death

Alan Osmond was given Elvis Presley's Book of Mormon from Cricket Butler a fan and a missionary to Elvis I guess...

Alan then gave Elvis' Book of Mormon to the LDS church.

Here are some writings of his in this copy of the Book of Mormon.

"I know this in my heart to be true."

"My Daughter Lisa (Marie) is 9 years old. She needs this church. Help her."

That was 1977 when he wrote that, Lisa being born in 1968..

I agree with Sanders:
Sanders' philosophy is a book is a fake until proven genuine. He also believes more handwriting samples would have to be available from the book to test it thoroughly enough.

Sounds interesting, but lends itself to the normal LDS urban legendry.
It's not an urban legend. The LDS church has his Book of Mormon with these writings of his in them...

From Alan Osmond's own website...

Elvis' own written words....

Alan Osmond gave Elvis' Book of Mormon to the LDS church for safe keeping...

Read this article: Deseretnews.com | Elvis almost LDS

According to that article he was scheduled to be baptized.

A documenary to go along with this film Tears of a King - Trailer should be out shortly..

Actually, this story is not an urban legend, although the details may have been elaborated over time. The Church does have his copy of the Book of Mormon. Interesting, but not particularly significant.

I don't doubt that he met with missionaries and had a book of mormon, but I am skeptical that he was planning to join the church. Didn't he die of a drug overdose?

You mean the old urban legend that Howard Hughes gave all his money to the LDS Church? Quite interesting, but so far, not in the least true. Let's separate fact from fiction please.

Let's be fair. Rock may be referring to any number of urban legends about HH and Mormondom that need confirmation. I know one--that Hughes was given a BoM before his death--has had a boost lately, when a chauffer's diary confirmed parts of the giver's story.

Still, FWIW, the Hughes-giving-all-his-money story is demonstrably false. The Howard Hughes Medical facilities would not be here otherwise.

I wouldn't be suprised if he was searching for something as he was a christian before he became a star. He was in fact a youth pastor for the AOG church.

Just looked this up now, thanks for the info....

The Religion of Elvis Presley

It seems as if Elvis was all over the place, as far as religion goes...

"Elvis did not believe the Bible in any traditional sense... Elvis constructed "a personalised religion out of what he'd read of Hinduism, Judaism, numerology, theosophy, mind control, positive thinking and Christianity"

"Elvis was sometimes called the evangelist by those who hung around him, and he called them his disciples; but the message he preached contained "strange permutations of Christian dogma" (Stairway to Heaven, p. 56). Elvis believed, for example, that Jesus slept with his female followers. Elvis even had messianic concepts of himself as the savior of mankind in the early 1970s. He read the Bible aloud at times and even conducted some strange "Bible studies," but he had no spiritual discernment and made up his own wild-eyed interpretations of biblical passages. His ex-wife, Priscilla, eventually joined the Church of Scientology, as did his daughter, Lisa Marie, and her two children."
