Why do you do magick?

by defining magick I would be limiting it..I purposefully left it open in a hope to get many replies.....

magick to me is one thing.....

but I would rather defer saying until someone has replied!...maybe this is a dead end question....

Perhaps you should tell us what it means to you first, and then others will share what they think. :goodjob:

Hello!!
Just wanted to say why I thought witches did magic (I guess, the person who ask the question didn t talk about the everyday magic that makes you feel happy when you don t know why, but of casting spells... ) I think it s like a ritual, I heard some say it was an active prayer, I d say it would be kind of true. And I d say it s to help you when you have problems, though you always have to help yourself, don t you?
Well, just a thought in passing. That s how I see it anyway. But you wouldn t have to do it. You would do it when you want to.
Cheers,

:hi: Do you do a lot of magic? I ve been thinking about being a wiccan or at least a pagan (like the philosophy  ), though I m still a bit lost], but wandering about looking for magic rituals and stuff, I found out it was pretty complicated or you have to be initiated or something like that. The thing is, I live in Paris (that is a big city), and I don t know anything about plants, nor about incense, nor about stones, and I don t know any wiccan, and I don t have much time, so this all is not very practical, I must say...
And I wonder... Hum... What is the God and Goddess story? Is it very important to you, or is it just about the philosophy?cheers!!

Dawny--

Yes, I agree. That was how my Wiccan mother taught me as a child to understand magicworking... as an active prayer. And I agree that any spiritual or uplifting experience can be "magic".

LMAO, I fixed it as best as I could... still can't get the damn "]" hanging off the end of one of the words to go away... but I deleted the other 2 posts that were even worse than that one.

In response to your actual questions: Yes, I do magic. Not as often as I used to, but every Sabbat I celebrate with my family includes spellworking in an attempt to communicate with the Powers That Be and generally to affect the world for the better. There are many different levels of doing magic, and not all are complicated. Don't worry if you can't find magicworking tools... most tools and other "ingredients" in a ritual are to help you focus your energy, and are not necessary to the fulfilment of the spell. As for levels of complication... well, they vary from the very simple, to, yes, the very complicated. Your simple desire to have something happen is magic, and may have results simply based on that desire. A prayer or other form of active meditation designed to achieve something is magic. A simple or complex spell (whether candle lighting, reciting words, making a potion, or a combination of the above) is magic, as is a full blown ritual.

You need not be initiated into a coven or spiritual pathway to be able to work magic. However, it might be recommended, simply because within a coven or by studying a particular spiritual pathway, you will probably be introduced to techniques of magicworking and the ethics thereof. For example, if you joined a Wiccan coven you'd be introduced to the concept of "And it harm none, do what you will"... meaning that thoughts and actions that harm others should be avoided. Everything you do has effects on the physical and spiritual level. As a result, simply wishing someone ill is magic... and it is the kind of magic that most pagans will recommend you avoid. However, without studying with a particular path, you may not be introduced to ideas such as this if you simply decided to make up a spell and perform it to achieve a desired end. Also, within a particular path you'd be introduced to techniques of achieving magical ends (such as building a circle) and the WHY behind it (in this case, to contain the energy you create and prevent other energies to interfere with your spell.)

There are many God and Goddess stories. The one I am most familiar with is this: "In the beginning there was She. She was All and All was She. She was the Creator. She was alone and wanted to be so no longer. She, the Mother of All, created life out of herself. She created Him.

He was born to Her and grew strong. She, the Creator, recovered easily from the birth and also grew strong.

He who came from the Mother of All was maturing.

He who was Her Son became Her Lover and Consort. She became with child.

He who was Her Consort reached the peak of his power.

He who was her Lover grew older.

His time was over and He who was Her Son and Consort died.

She who was the Creator was again alone. But She was with Child and He who was Her Son would be born again.

And the circle continues...
"

 um...NO...but ok....

dawny my feeling is- and i tell this to every one finding there way into wicca, the magic is part of the relgion but if you are studying and researching the religion dont do magic, spells are one find of magic and have consequences (i dont mean to sound like something of charmed or buffy!) and there are pretty powerful spells. magic is all around everyday whether you realise it or not there is magic from the way our bodies are designed to live to the leaves changing colour. I am aware of magic and when i pray (want of better word) that is magic the active prayer is a good way to describe it.
Spells i dont do, i could but i dont i probably will in the future but that to me is a different type of magic it uses natures energy but in a kinda deferred way.

does this make sense to anyone, and i cannot stress enough dont try to do spells until you have a whole lot of experience in the disiplin you choose, try meditation has a silent prayer.
