Proposed bill to ban .50 caliber rifles

Anyone know how often .50 caliber rifles are cause of death in North America? I understand cartel threats and potential conflicts resulting from these weapons in wrong hands, but it makes me wonder how banning and registering would help secure and limit threat risks to everyday people, who aren't opposed to taking a defensive stand or stance via our 2nd amendment right to help secure this nation if necessary.

What if someone invents a rifle that takes .60 calibre or .70 calibre rounds?

I do not see .50 caliber guns being a problem for street crime or for mass murders. Nor are they a self defense gun. The gun nuts of this country want to own every gun that they can legally own. They are not the problem when it comes to gun violence in the US. This is purely cosmetic and only cause the loss of Second Amendment supporter votes.

Let the alarmist nutcase make their bills.

It's not a law so no worries. Plus did you ever fire a .50 cal?. Best shot with a tripod or vehicle mount.

Never have and don't plan to, to be honest. I'll leave the .50's to the more skilled than I. I was thinking along the lines of a straw and spit balls to cheek, but I don't really expect to live through a conflict requiring utilization of a .50 on our soil anyway. I could be that thorn on the ankle and heel that never seems to heal though. That in some cases is effective enough to help us win one.

Nothing I hunt needs to be hunted with a 50 cal.

However there are some who use them to hunt for example coyotes. Its overkill but deadly when at far range. And they use it just because they can.

A potential threat doesn't mean an actual threat. These rifles are impractical for most rifle enthusiasts. I don't see a need for them other than for law enforcement (federal) and military applications. I also don't see a need to ban them.

Not sure anything should be hunted with a .50 there's nothing left of what you hit to process.

**** in the Navy our .50 was for disabling engines of small crafts. Not people.
