Islam for Christians

What is Islam? For Christian Brother & Sisters:-
Quran says that closest to muslims in religion are christians.

I think many christians don’t know that muslims believe in Jesus (PBUH:peace Be Upon Him) but NOT as son of God but as a Prophet/Messenger of God. & muslims respect Jesus & all prophets of God so much that when ever they call name of any Prophet they say PBUH (Peace Be Upon Him) with it.

Here is what Muslims believe:-

God is one & only one. He does not beget nor is He begotten. He has no relative, no son , no spouse. He has no beginning & no end. Most people find it difficult to absorb this idea that how come one cannot have a beginning. This is because we are so used to seeing everything having an origin. But all these things are created by God. He made a system in which everything has an origin, but He Himself has been there since ever.

God created this universe & creatures including human beings, for whatever reason lets not go into that debate for now. He populated earth with humans. He taught humans to live their lives according to His will. But with time people started forgetting His teachings & started going astray. So He selected from humans some persons to be His Prophets/Messengers to guide people back to His way. According to one saying of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) there have been 134,000 Messengers of God in this world. Populations were scattered in olden days & there was poor communication & interaction between them, so God sent separate Messengers for every population & as many times as needed. Message was also modified according to particular circumstances of a particular population.

Prophets were given a set of miracles to prove to people that they are for real. A miracle is NOT like magic. Magic is done by magician himself BUT miracles are done by God through His angles. Though the performer is a Prophet but he himself does nothing. Like when Moses was told by God to throw his stick on ground, it became a big snake. Moses got terrified & started running away from it. God told him not to be afraid as that was a miracle from HIM. So Moses did not convert stick to snake himself.

Adam(PBUH) was given his own set of miracles. He was created from clay. Eve was created from rib of Adam. Eve(PBUH) gave birth to a pair of male & female babies in morning & one pair in the evening. Morning boy would marry evening girl & morning girl would marry evening boy. It was permitted by God at that time. So the world was populated. Some muslims believe that Adam was above 90 feet tall. There is a huge human foot-print in Srilanka. Muslims believe that is Adam’s because he landed on earth somewhere in south asian region.

Moses(PBUH) was given his own set of miracles. His stick would become a snake. His hand would start glowing with light when he would put it in his arm-pit. So on.

Now we come to Jesus(PBUH). This is where muslims & christians take different paths. We muslims believe that Jesus(PBUH) was a beloved Messenger of God, NOT a son of God & a very respectful Prophet of muslims.

Jesus(PBUH) was given his own set of miracles. 1st he was born miraculously without male intervention. Mary(PBUH) was a pious woman never touched by a man. Birth without sperm intervention is no longer an unknown phenomenon now. Even scientists can make a living being without sperm, don’t you think God can also do it !!!
You know in cloning they take an ovum(egg) from female & remove its nucleus & insert in it a nucleus taken from an ordinary cell of body & then spark ovum so it starts dividing. Then Jesus(PBUH) started talking to people when he was just an infant, another miracle. He was also given miracles of curing sick people. So on.

When jews tried to crucify Jesus(PBUH), God replaced him by another person. They thought that they killed Jesus(PBUH) but they were mistaken. Jesus(PBUH) NEVER died. God lifted Jesus(PBUH) to heavens & he is still alive there & will come back in future to guide lost people back to real teachings of God. Here christians differ from muslims. Christians believe that he was crucified & then resurrected while muslims believe that he NEVER died.

Then God sent a final Prophet named Muhammad(PBUH) with final book called Quran. Mankind at time of Muhammad(PBUH) was advanced enough to receive final teachings of God. “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (Surah 5:3)
We muslims believe in ALL the books given to prophets, including bible(“Injeel” in arabic). But we believe that bible available now is NOT 100% same bible that was given to Jesus(PBUH). There have been lots of omissions, additions & alterations. There would be some verses of today's Bible that are from original Bible, but not all of it is in original shape. Even the christians say it themselves.

We muslims believe that Jesus(PBUH) told people of that time “I am a Messenger of God” & people intentionally or un-intentionally translated it as if he was saying “I am son of God” ---or--- may be christians believe that God (God forbid) impregnated Mary(PBUH) that makes Jesus(PBUH) son of God. As I said even scientists have impregnated animals without sperm intervention (= Cloning). That does NOT make that scientist father of that pregnancy!!! Scientist just used his KNOWLEDGE to impregnate that animal. Similarly God used His KNOWLEDGE to impregnate Mary(PBUH) with Jesus(PBUH).

Also name ALLAH that muslims use for God was mentioned in hebrew bible (Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark12:29 & Genesis 1:1) as the word is “ALOHIM”. Here “IM” is added to for respect. Translators translated it as “God” instead of using exact pronunciation.
אלהים (read right to left) = Alohym or Alohim or Elohim
א = A
ל = L
ה = H
י = Y
ם = M

In short a muslim is a person who believes in following 5 things:-
  • One GOD who neither begets nor is begotten.
  • ALL prophets sent by God.
  • Holy Books given to prophets.
  • Angels.
  • Day of judgement.
If I hurt someone’s feelings I apologise for that. My intention was to present islamic point of view in my own way. I am NOT an expert on Islam so I cannot answers any questions that may arise in your minds. For that you’ll have to ask some expert.

Well, that was an interesting read thank you. I think you should have posted that in the Islam only section though as all you have really done is tell us what you believe and that you can't answer our questions.

nice to meet you. :)

Sure I can try the explain who the Mehdi is... but i'll wait for a Christian to ask...:)

I don't remember anything about the mahdi in the Qu'ran. Is this just another fairy story from the Hadith? The Hadith is highly unreliable and sometimes just incorrect.

Then it was prophecised in Bible that another Prophet would come & his name would be Muhammad(PBUH). But translators tried to avoid writing the name MUHAMMAD so they wrote translation of word MUHAMMAD i.e., “altogether lovely” instead of mentioning it as name (Song of Solomon 5:16.) The Hebrew word used there is Muhammuddim. The end letters “IM” is added for respect/majesty/grandeur. Minus "im" the name would be Muhamud translated as "altogether lovely"
מחמדים (read right to left) = MAHMAD’IM
מ = M
ח = H or KH or CH
מ = M
ד = D
י = Y
ם = M

I have one question for you:

In my (admittedly limited) knowledge of Hebrew, the "im" ending is a plural ending. Therefore, elohim is rendered as "the gods." How do you reconcile this with the understanding that Allah is one (if they are, indeed, the same term)?

Then it was prophecised in Bible that another Prophet would come & his name would be Muhammad(PBUH).
His name would be Muhammed? Where is this prophecy? Chapter and verse please.

But translators tried to avoid writing the name MUHAMMAD
Who said so? Did someone ask them?

so they wrote translation of word MUHAMMAD i.e., “altogether lovely” instead of mentioning it as name (Song of Solomon 5:16.)
Was Muhammed a white man?

Song of Solomon 5:10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.
This is the one spoken of in Song of Solomon 5:16

Song of Solomon 5:16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.
Why do you think it means Mohammed here? What about the other places the word is used? Lets have a go at this:

1st Kings 20:6 Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant [Or Muhammed] in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

Isaiah 64:11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant [Or Muhammed] things are laid waste.

Lamentations 2:4 He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an adversary, and slew all that were pleasant {Or Muhammed} to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: he poured out his fury like fire.

Ezekiel 24:16 Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire {Or Muhammed} of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

Joel 3:5 Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant {Or Muhammed} things:

Hosea 9:16 Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved {Or Muhammed} fruit of their womb

The Hebrew word used there is Muhammuddim. The end letters “IM” is added for respect/majesty/grandeur. Minus "im" the name would be Muhamud translated as "altogether lovely"
מחמדים (read right to left) = MAHMAD’IM

The Hebrew word us Machmad מחמד and the verse you cited is not attempting to give a name of a person but a description of his person.

I tried very hard to believe Islam's Allah and God were the same, but the more I read of Islam the more I doubt it. The whole foundation of Christianity is God's sacrifice for man in the form of Jesus Christ going through death and conquering death for man. I pray that the God loving Muslims of the world will open their hearts to the free gift God has for all mankind.

You know that free gift would sure be nice and easy... but then why didn't God just keep us all in Heaven... He has the power... So God Sacrifices himself… to save us from himself?

Okay... so who are we doing good deed for and abstaining from bad from…?
Christians do good and abstain from bad for a number of reasons: to help others, to glorify God, to be obedient to our calling, to conform us further into the image of our Savior...is that enough?

you mostly pointed to what we do... but why do we do it?

Okay let me try to be more clear... what the point of Glorifying God,
Because He is our Creator and He deserves it.

helping other
Because we're nice. :)

Beong obedient to our calling
Same reason as the first one, basically...we owe our lives to God, it behooves us to return some small bit of the favor and do as He asks.

and conform ourselves to the image of Jesus…?
Because Jesus is perfect. He is God in the flesh, He is ultimately the One we should imitate in order to live holy, righteous lives.
