Snorting God?

If there were a drug that could, 100% of the time, cause a person to have a revelation of deity, would that constitute evidence for the existence of deity?

it's called Salvia, try it. and its legal to people 18 or older. properly controlled it can have wonderous effects on the mind and lead you to fantastic revelations. whether you accept those revelations is up to you.

very well then, no, it would not, because in your drug-altered state, you would not know if they were real or not.

If such a drug did not provide evidence of the existence of deity, would there be any point in taking it?

That's what they thought about acid. In the long run, it didn't work.

Oh but it does work -- sometimes. As do other psychotomimetics -- sometimes.
However, individual revelation or insight is just that, individual. It speakes more to the effects of the drug itself than to any testable metaphysical hypothesis.

I would say, yes. It is evidence, but not very conclusive evidence.

I do not think Our rules permit the suggested use of drugs or the discussion of their merits ..................................

Debonaire Rationale
Here's where the argument of subjective reality vs. objective ontology comes into play. Bertrand Russell posited the idea of "solipsism," in which one's reality is directly proportionate with the mind's handling of "sense data" (i.e. smell, taste, sight, sound, etc.), and the interpretation of it.

Drugs that induce such feelings act upon very deep-seeded, subconscious "presets" that define one's own ideas of a religious experience. The sense data collected from such experiences could lead to some fascinating experiences based on the sheer contrast to a "sober" reality. Consequently, the drug user will attribute such experiences to their own subjective religious ideals. If this model consists of a diety/ies, then yes - I believe it is a valid reason to use such a drug: free your mind. ;)

Said drug doesn't have to be limited by diety-revelations. It could lead to the exact opposite - finding spiritual power in one's self, totally negating the notion of diety/ies in both sober and altered states of mind.
