President Bush, Jr. said Koran and Bible equal in truth

During his Inaugural speech today, President Bush, Jr. said the Koran and Bible are equal in truth.

His Vice-President, Richard Cheney took the oath of Vice-President on the Bible being held by a lesbian (one of Cheney's daughters).

Are President Bush, Jr. and Vice President Cheney promoting traditional Christianity or are they promoting heresy and blasphemy?

Also, President Bush, Jr. spoke against politicians who suppress the rights of women (such as the European Pope - by implication - who forbids women from becoming ministers/pastors based on gender discrimination) and said that as President of the United States he would work to end such basic violations of human rights.

Will the God of the Bible bless Bush, Jr. and Cheney or will the God of the Bible withhold blessings because of what was said in the Inauguration ceremony today which was broadcast to 6,000,000,000 TV viewers?

Well, I was not one of the 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 viewers :areyoucra , but I sure hope God's not to hard on George... he needs all the help he can get!

I am glad I did not watch it. Iam not sure about heresy or blasphemy. However, I am active online with different groups that work to protect human rights (women's and homosexuals) and what I have read just now is a sign of hypocracy(spelling), in my opinion.

The President wants to put more Justices in the Supreme Court that will overturn Roe vs. Wade and take away female rights of their own bodies but wants to end the Church's discrimination that is gender based? I am glad he proposes to do that but I feel he should also keep rosaries out of women's ovaries since his main supporters forget about Separation of Church and State.

I really can't comment right now about Dick Cheney's oath because I do not know his stance on gay marriage rights. It would be unfair of me to assume that because he campaigned and won with the President that he is against the rights of gays.

Maybe I'm being hypersensitive at the moment, but that's a pretty poor joke.

I've been on the butt of too many "You can touch a Bible/cross and not burst into flames from being gay/pagan?" jokes/serious questions. :areyoucra

I apologize, Scott. That was posted when I first got home, and didn't have my wits (and caffeine) about me. :)

Self-government relies, in the end, on the governing of the self. That edifice of character is built in families, supported by communities with standards, and sustained in our national life by the truths of Sinai, the Sermon on the Mount, the words of the Koran, and the varied faiths of our people. Americans move forward in every generation by reaffirming all that is good and true that came before – ideals of justice and conduct that are the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Bush is not himself comparing truths, but describing the basis by which various communities form morals to be governed by.

Also, President Bush, Jr. spoke against politicians who suppress the rights of women (such as the European Pope - by implication - who forbids women from becoming ministers/pastors based on gender discrimination) and said that as President of the United States he would work to end such basic violations of human rights.
The Pope makes no such prohibition, this is a matter of Canon Law. Making this a feminist cause is silly, and comparing the Pope to the tyrannical leaders who torture, murder and persecute women is intellectually dishonest. Catholic women are strong and influential members of religious and lay society because of the equality demanded by Christianity despite the simplistic interpretations of the politically correct.

Pgd in the top you said, Bush said the Koran and the Bible were equal in the truth and than at the bottom you said the "God of the Bible" . Is this to say that Allah and Jehovah and Yhwh are not all the same diety?

The Koran was written by Mohammed I believe; parts of the Bible (Old Testament) were written in stone on Mt. Sinai by God (or Moses the Stone Cutter) I believe.

Generally speaking, the Bible (Old and New Testaments) are believed written several hundred years or more before Mohammed was born.

President Bush, Jr. took his Oath of Office as President of the United States using the Bible (not the Koran). The Bible and the Koran are two different books (not the identical book).

Regarding your question as to who is Jehovah, Allah, and Yhwh and what is meant by the use of those terms as used in the Bible and the Koran, please consider asking President Bush, Jr. who would likely know (not me) since he made today's Inaugural speech and has said that he has a relationship with the Lord and that God ~ told him that God wanted him to be President of the United States of America and God did not want politician Al Gore or politician John Kerry.

I can't ask him. But as far as blessings go if the knowns or assumes are such

1) God created the world
2) all those that are in the world were created by God

I can't think of a reason why he would create all the world and only favor part of it. To bless one is to penalize the other no?

Well, the Bible of Judaism (Old Testament) and Christianity (New Testament) tends to suggest that God favors only part of creation as in:

a) Old Testament reports God throwing out Eve and Adam for eating a non-organic apple and

b) New Testament tells about a Last Judgement where the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court will make a final thumbs up decision (heaven) or thumbs down decision (heck)...oops...amend that from Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court to Jesus Christ sitting on his great white throne.

PGD, I was wondering how to phrase this, and I think I should simply ask you outright. In your opinion, do you think there's something wrong with being gay or loving gay family members? Do you perhaps think that not being a Christian makes your viewpoint less valid?

I'm wondering if maybe I'm misinterpreting your comments, and I would appreciate some clarification before I am unkind enough to assume that the impression I'm getting from your posts is one thing, when maybe you really think something different.

If my interpretation of the comments is correct, though, I would suggest addressing those comments in a seperate post (again, I would recommend the 'debate' section). Although these issues have been discussed repeatedly, it bears mentioning that not everyone who thinks that Bush is a bully of the lowest caliber does not share the belief in the above things mention, and that it will distract the discussion from the original intent of the topic.

Or does God have better things to do then worry about some #@*% ^%$@ $^*%#!@ who still thinks that the Christians won the Crusades ? { one out of nine isn't that great a batting average }

BTW there were no profanities used there . Just thought better of using the words that I was thinking , that's all .

The world would be so much better if (instead of Bush) a Druid was elected. OR some other pagan religion like that. She'd be sworn in on a wreath of mistletoe, ivy, and oak leaves. Ivy would be grown on the whitehouse. She would most likely stop the wars, and take much money out of the military and put it into other, more important areas. I think that everyone would be better off if such a thing were to happen, regardless of the fundamentalists who would cry that doomsday has come.

I don't remember the source, but didn't Bush Jr. ( think Bush Sr disagreed) state that he believed only Christians went to heaven?
