Jerry Falwell is dead

Booko

Deviled Hen
2 Timothy 4:5-8
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Thanks for the reference!

I'm a little confused by this, Rev. A crown of righteousness is a metaphysical spiritual thing, where jewels can be mistaken for a material one (as Mister T alluded to earlier).

Not like I really thought you meant the material version anyway. I was just a bit confused about where the "jeweled" part came from, as I didn't recall where that particular reference came from. (Maybe a different translation, for all I know.)

Still, why do you assume that Falwell would necessarily get such a reward? You sound very certain. Falwell called himself an evangelist, certainly, and many considered him an evangelist, but surely you realize there are many Christians even who thought of him more as more a detriment to the faith than an asset.

And as I think you pointed out yourself, not everyone who says "Lord, Lord" shall enter the Kingdom.

God alone is sure of his fate.

My 2 cents, anyway. :)

Once upon a time....
I just read that Falwell's father and grandfather were both Atheists. Atheists, be mindful of your children. :D

I vaguely recall someone mentioning that his father was an alcoholic.

Does anyone know if this is factual?

It would explain a few things, if true.

Yes, his father was an alcoholic. His mother on the other hand was very religious.

I thought so. Like I said, it explains a lot.

It's always seemed to me like people who come from very dysfunctional families tend to go one way or the other and seems like quite a struggle for them to find the moderate course.

I wonder what Falwell would've been like if he'd grown up in my family?

I wonder what I'd have been like if I'd grown up in his family?

I suppose that's why I might not care at all for some of his actions that I regard as divisive at best, but honestly, it's not like he had the same start in life I did.

Okay, Rick, let me compile our conversation thus far and questions you have failed to answer.

I quoted you and asked:
Farewell Reverend Jerry Falwell, your rewards await you in heaven!
Out of curiosity, would you say he is or isn't going to be rewarded for saying that 9/11 was brought on by the US "tolerating" gays, lesbians, feminists, etc?
After you posted several more times without answering me, I quoted you and asked:
If anyone had a thread about someone else who died that you admired and the religious right made comments like some of you have, you would have a cow!

The hate and the venom for the moral majority on a religious forum speaks volumes about some of you.
If someone I "respected" made comments about how the religious right brought on 9/11 and that the US is being punished for tolerating the religious right... well, I wouldn't respect them for starters, and I'd think people were pretty justified in whatever they said.

Are you ever going to answer my question?
Without giving me a straight answer, you replied:
I believe he apologised for that statement. Christians are not perfect, just forgiven.

Your comment, "Out of curiosity", is a little dishonest don't you think?
After correcting you on Falwell apologizing (well, he did, but he later stood by his remarks again), I asked:
Er... I have no idea what you mean here. Do you mean I'm not actually curious? :sarcastic Because I am.
Rather than answering, you said:
I wonder how many souls he has brought to Christ?
When I asked why you wouldn't answer me, you said, STILL without answering any of my questions:
Jaymes, I am trying to answer you questions. I just don't think you like my answers.
To which I replied:
You're right. I guess my standards are just too high... I like for people to make sense and actually address what I asked in my question when they answer me
Are you still going to insist that you have somehow answered my questions? If so, I'm afraid that I'll have to bow out of dialogue with you, since it's obvious it's going to go nowhere... other than circles.

With any luck Pat Robertson is right behind him.
