Social study of the Exodus

Lady Crimson

credo quia absurdum
I'm curious on making a study about psychology in the Bible... that's sort of hard on its own seeing that most priests/preachers (call them what you will) see psychology as the 'opposition'.

But I think that the Bible is an excellent social study of the time... not only spiritually/faith-wise, but politically too (and not only).

Well, the Bible is such a large book, and I'm only 17 so I can only tackle so many issues. So I've picked the Exodus. Of what you read and what you think, could you possibly tell me how you imagine the Hebrews, the Egyptians, life back then (biblically speaking, of course)? It would help me a lot :)

Thanks!

The Hebrews were slaves of the Egyptians, God led them out of Egypt to the wilderness where, because of sin and fear they wandered 40 years when the Promised Land was only a day and a half walk away. God leads us out of slavery too, by the death of His Son, He provide the way for everyone to be free indeed, by trusting that His death on the cross paid for ALL our sins, and He gives us His righteousness in place of our own, which is worthless. Having full assurance of our salvation, we rejoice and follow the Lord giving us abundant life, a 'promised land' now and reward later. That did not answer your question, but thats just what came out, :)

hehe... thank you for the comment
I know the story... I was more interested in knowing what people think everything was like back then... how the Hebrews were oppressed and what could they have done if they didn't receive God's help or that of Moses.

Oh, it happened alright, archeology proves it, I have photos of the evidence, Hebrew writings on the cliffs describing events during the exodus, etc. you can count on it, but that is another thread.

Oh? That's a new one on the Biblical archaologists...

New one indeed as there is no record in Eqypt that they (the Egyptians) held the entire Jewish people as slaves. Similarly, there is no record of Egypt losing a ton of slaves all at once.

But if all of a sudden, there is some genuine, historical or archealogical evidence that there ever was an Exodus event, by all means, share with the group. I would love to hear it.
