Are we programmed to search for God?

Hey all, I decided to put this thread into a discussion forum becuase I am not interested in debating it's merits, only what you guys think about it. Hopefully, this will open up new doors for more discussion, or possibly a debate thread.

There are many people who do not believe in God, but still they debate it's merits. Thousands of people analyze different religious texts every day in hopes to acheive some kind of revelation. There people that above all, desire proof of God. Could this be that we all have an innate tendency to search for God? Even those who are athiest or Agnostic, I ask you, why debate the merits of a God that is not real? I think that we all have a behavior engrained in us to search for God, whoever or whatever he may be, and regardless of what we believe. What do you guys think?

I think so, yes. I believe that we have it hard-wired into us...it just doesn't mean we're going to do it.

No, I'd say that we have an overwhelming urge to know everything about everything. People are always trying to find answers to the unknown and when something truly stumping comes around it is only natural for people to turn to the supernatural. Funny how that works.

In a roundabout this can be seen as humans naturally turn looking for God, but it is just people looking for answers and finding them in different ways.

For precisely the same the same reason that you do not think that we're programed to search for Leprechauns.

Wasn't this in Time magazine not to long ago? I couldn't finish the article (titled, "the god gene") in time. (Be quiet! I didn't want to buy it, and my mom shopped to quick!) It talked about how the search for god may be hardwired into our DNA.

If we were then everyone would be doing it. But as it turns out, just a small percentage of the world is actualy searching for god.
