How Are You Faring Nowadays?

My country has been going through an economic crisis, and I'm once again reminded that some challenges in life are common to almost all of us regardless of any differences we otherwise have.

How are you faring nowadays, not just financially but in general: mentally, health-wise, etc.? Do you find that you could use more company? This is the place!

Everyone is welcome to give an update on themselves here—liberal, conservative, centrist, or whatever label you use for yourself. This is about our common experiences.

My brain added a "t" in the title. I checked the thread to see if I have been doing it wrong and got confused.

I'm faring well. I've had a stressful day so I am a bit edgy this evening. Everybody has those days.

A little company couldn't hurt. My animals may sense some tension so it seems they're avoiding me, for now. :(

Financially, its winter. Winter is a low income month for restaurant workers and their families. Less people go out to eat in bundles of snow and freezing cold, so employees tend to have less hours. Its like this every year. Its never fun, though.

Mentally... well, I'm tough. I'll survive. I'm not doing too poorly; been taking stock of how things are, and how to adjust.

Health-wise, I'm healthy as an ox. I've been trying to get into the gym habit as I recognize I very much need more exercise, but the wonky childcare hours presents problems for me. No afternoon childcare three days out of the week doesn't make me very consistent. I don't know what in the world is with the myth that all parents and all kids are morning people...

I definitely need more company. I am an extrovert stuck in an introvert's world, and no matter how much time goes on, I never really adapt to that comfortably.

I'm looking forward to having a couple of weeks of leave from work after a very busy and stressful time. Burn out is common place in my line of work.

This year I will have two children to support through university and it is great to see them engaged in education and positively considering their futures.

I like your thread that aims at inclusion of everyone. It really doesn't matter to me where people are on the religious/political spectrum providing they are not harming others.

Challenges have been there. I try to make them opportunities.

Doing quite well. Just listened to Ed Mylett - what a powerful speaker. Tomorrow will lister to Carly Patterson. The first was moving and inspiring as I am sure tomorrow will be also.

Had a Christmas with my children and Australian grandchildren with us for 5 weeks which means that all of my 3 children and all the grandchildren were with us. So mentally/socially/spiritually doing just great.

Healthwise, at 68, doing good too.

Always enjoy making new company so not lacking in that area - and, of course, I have my RF family too.

God is good!

Hope you have a great year.

I'm great, as we're on pilgrimage in the middle of it time wise. This is day 7 of 14 days, and we've been busy doing what we do on pilgrimage. Today I spent a couple of hours walking a nice Tamil family from Santa Cruz around the grounds. The ten year old twins, bright and cheerful gave a 5 minute dance performance in the temple before we went on the walk. Great questions they had, great answers to our questions. So yes, life is good. We return to the cold Canadian winter in bout a week. This is our first pilgrimage since Covid began.

On a side note, after my 3 year old grandchild Havana left our home on route back to Australia but stopping at a friends house in Phoenix, Arizona.

As she stepped into the bathroom with her mom she quips,

"Mum, there are so many different types of toilets. I like Nana and Papa's toilet. I miss Nana and Papa's toilet".

The things that impress children :D

At 77, when I'm asked about my health I always think "compared to friends" or "compared to the way it used to be". Compared to some friends, I'm doing great. Compared to my younger body, let's just say I'm alive and kicking.

As to the rest, I'm thrilled with the variety and scope of all my volunteer activities: video, IT, Sanctuary cleaning and group meal prep.

I feel your grand childs pain, everytime I go to America I struggle with the plumbing. I'm convinced no 2 showers work the same in the whole country, I usually end up just washing my feet because I can't work out how to get the water to come out of the shower head and not the bath tap.

Fairly well thanks.

financially

Bof... Don't care.

in general

Still here, i see that as a bonus.

Do you find that you could use more company?

Husband, 3 children, 5 cats, several times daily phonecalls to our friendly schizophrenic, neighbours "just dropping by", good excuse for coffee. Weekly or more phonecalls to parents, monthly or more phonecalls to more distant family and old friends. The social whirl that is life in a small village.

Perhaps i could do with a little less company.

This is the place!

Wonderful, cheers.

How am I faring? Well I try to take it as it comes, and try and find balance, and try not to be overly pessimistic or optimistic. Read books, stay productive. Winter has a lack of activity in this part of the world, but I try to get over that. I think I have been making headway on my experimental music projects. I am starting to learn slightly more about mixing, and am actually getting some headway on results, amazingly to me. However, I have just done that for the last 4 hours, and have to give it a break.

That's what we musicians can end up doing if you give us recording software. Suddenly you have all these knobs and parameters to fiddle with, and one can spend hours, days, and months trying to dial them in

I've been trying to find a job lately, but haven't been very successful. I really want to find something that has to do with archeology or Jewish history, the fields that I'm studying. It's less about the money and more about getting some experience in the fields I want to work in after uni. A couple of months ago what seemed like a golden opportunity arose: A certain digitalized archeology archive was looking for people to help sort out documents. Relatively good pay, work whenever you're free and off-site (i.e., from your own computer). Unfortunately, though I contacted them and was told to send in my resume, they never got back to me. It would have been nice for them to at least tell me my application was rejected, but not even that. I'm a little at fault here, I suppose, because by the time I realized that I should have sent a follow-up message, say, two weeks later, a significantly longer period had passed.

A couple of weeks ago I saw an ad for student writers and editors on a new biblical archeology website in Hebrew. I was a little uncomfortable with some of the scholars (people who in my opinion have said incredibly nonsensical things in the past) they had featured on the site, but decided to go for the job, as a chance to get out of my comfort zone. It's been several days and I've yet to receive a reply of any sort.

In short, it would be nice if people could at least take the time to tell you they saw your message and they've decided to reject your application. Don't leave me hanging, you know?

In other news, I have been working for over half a year now on an academic essay which I hope to have published. Last week I received critique from the editor of the journal I sent the essay to and later that week I sat down with the professor who's assisting me in the writing process to discuss the critique. I hope to finish editing in the corrections ASAP for another shot at publishing in that particular journal.

Much more stressed these days. Financially I am in a better place, but education has only gotten tougher. Both my wife and I have considered leaving education and finding other jobs. But the job is stable due to how many other people are leaving the profession and I do like the financial stability.
