Do homosexuals contribute to society?

This question was first raised in another thread, now closed. I think that if we look at the contributions homosexuals have made (and continue to make) to society, the evidence is overwhelming that homosexuals have repeatedly made vital contributions to society. Do you agree? Disagree? What do you think?

Since the 'issues' thread was closed, I thought I'd bring this particular issue up in a new thread.

if homosexuals were a good thing then surely they would contribute to society. with the population trend as it is in MEDCS then we need more people, homos just dont add to the very essence of out society, to survive.

:areyoucra Don't contribute to society? What do you think we do, sit on the couch and watch TV all day while draining government money?

I personally have a gay friend in the military, and I daresay they have contributed quite a bit to society.
Aside from not being to produce children with their partner, how do homosexuals not contribute to society? :sarcastic

Homosexuals are people. They are a part of society. Contributing to it is part of that, so of course they have contributed...

Hah hah, whoops. Didn't realize you made a thread too, Sunstone. Sorry to the mods about the double-post.

Aristotle was homosexual, wasn't he? The father of biology, I believe he's been called.

What silliness! Are we to take the untold and manifold contributions to society and interrogate each contributor as to sexual preference? In the absence of any evidence that homosexuals do not contribute, what possible justification is there for this line of questioning? Give the burden of proof back to the bigots where it belongs.

Same-sex-love-people contribute, to any person thinking in a rational manner, to the mutual understanding of people and the mutual understanding that we all are human beings.

I agree with everyone who has said that homosexuals have contributed to society, not as homosexuals, but as people

I must be particularly naive, but, to me (heterosexual as it happens), the question asked could have just as well as been Do tall people contribute to society?, or Do short people contribute to society?
Why should homosexuals contribute any more or any less that other sexually orientated people?:tsk:

i kno. like alexander the great, leonardo da vinci (!!!), plato.....

it doesnt really matter. unless if theres a study proving that gay people are actually smarter (o_O) thru genetics or something, you cant really say there is much difference.

Ian McKellan or as we know him, Gandalf, in the Lord of the Rings is gay (the actor not the wizard) People who think they don't are blind. Such prejudice. The more people oppose their rights, the more I support them. Like today in religion class of all places...

We were taking our finals and we got to take this questionaire sort of thing about our views on heaven, hell, priests, purgatory, ordination of women, and gay marriage. We were able to write about a variety of things. I chose an animal consciousness question and the gay marriage question. In half a page, I explained my views of animal rights and everything I say at the dinner table when meat is served. Not too exciting. Then I gave my opinion of gay rights. I said how it was wrong to supress the homosexuals and that I believed many were born that way. I explained it was the Church's decision to accept it or not in their faith, but not the state and government's decision. I compared it to a small scale segregation, and then questioned why we are worrying about who marries who when thousands of children die every day with no food I felt good about myself after writing this, and after I was done, my friend asked me what I had written about. He already knew about my Buddhist beliefs and position on animal rights so he asked me what the second one was. I said I had written about gay and lesbian rights. Just for that I was called a '***' and asked if I loved men or something. "Far from it," I said, "but I still support their rights." "Gay ***" he said again.!
Luckily I have been practicing a meditation to control all hateful emotions, otherwise I would have exploded. The bell rang and I watched as another prejudicial teenager had shot down my beliefs.

I wonder how many gay people he as ever met in his life.

Hmmm, most religions tell us to love our fellow man.....I guess they just don't want us to love him that much :biglaugh:

Ok....back on to the topic....

Everyone in society contributes something.....well, everyone but George Bush
