I love writing and have for as long as I can remember. My dream is to be a freelance writer or a published author (or both!).

Yep! I've actually got an original story that I've been working on for... forever (I should go easier on George R.R. Martin...) and a trilogy for Halo that's further along that that one. For those I'm trying to get the first book up to 100k words; currently it's at around 38k.

I write short stories, poetry, and songs. I am also an avid journalist, documenting my dreams, events, thoughts, and researches.

Yes, as you probably already know.

I'm doing my first book signing today, since Covid interrupted the process. This aspect I'm not so comfortable with, so I'm still regularly sending queries to publishers and agents. I was a major co-author for "Life Skills for Hindu Teens' a series of short stories with life lessons, and I got a travelogue article published in India Abroad, which is an ethnic journal that speaks for itself. I'd like to see some of your work some day.

This is going to sound weird. I'm a very successful author (13 bestselling books), but only a so-so writer. My books are instructional, and I focus on making the teaching as good as possible, which seems to make my lack of writing skills less important.

All that said, l admire and appreciate good writing. These days when I want to read fiction I focus on finding the best writers, and I don't care that much what the genre is :)

Not my thing. I've written programs and it was hard enough to write the handbook. I'm not that good with words.
I do write scenarios for RPGs, though. It requires some of the same skills a writer needs, world building, consistency, building an arc, thinking about the motives of the badies and thinking about how to motivate the players.

For writers of all ilks, I would highly recommend a fun little book called "Save the Cat", written by a successful screenplay writer.

(fwiw, i've taught hundreds of geeks to write better books on programming, and I always recommend this book)
