Democrat controlled San Francisco Police wants to kill people with this...

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
How come there are massive, liberal, street protests going on in conservative controlled Iran and Myanmar? Sometimes the political group in power has less control than they'd like.

Maybe Democrats aren't so interested in order and control as Republicans. They do tend to be less heavy-handed, don't they?
Maybe in Israel?

Unaware of similar proposals in Red States like Texas. Just the blue state of California as it stands.

Jesus Christ @Twilight Hue , such ridiculous melodramatic hyperbole. The robots aren't autonomous, they're remotely controlled by the police, just like the bomb squad robots they've using for years. The only reason behind your display of spastic theatrics is because Dems were behind it. If republicans backed it, you would cheer them for "backing the blue".

I mentioned in an earlier post it will likely and eventually lead to autonomous platforms down the road if this gets approved.

Considering we already use UAVs in the military and they take out plenty of innocent civilians as well as military targets, I would consider this a real problem. I just see it as likely being bipartisan.
It is bipartisan.

Texas (Dallas) already employed and used robotics to kill a sniper in the past. A black man out to kill whites.

Of course, the officers who used it were not charged.

No charges for Dallas officers who killed sniper with robot bomb

Now Democrats apparently want to use it.

We will see what they decide.

Just because San Francisco politics is overwhelmingly Democratic doesn't mean every action or decision made by police is an edict of the Democratic Party. Some decisions are made for practical reasons, and are not politically motivated.

In the summer of 2020, the mostly peaceful protests against the police; de-fund the police, most of the rioting was done in cities controlled by the Democrats. Common sense tells me Democrat run cities was where the problem was the worse; cause and affect. If ti had been worse in Republican cities that pot would have boiled over first and strongest.

The rank and file police, in all cities, are under a police chief who is under the mayor. Politics controls the police, and the backlash by the civilians was worse where Democrat politics controlled the cities and the police.

The Democrats took a U-turn after this cause and affect became obvious and hard to spin away; they were the source of the problem. Their coverup solution was to reduce the number of police and not prosecute real crimes, thereby lowering their bad crime statistics numbers on paper, but not in hard reality.

The victims of crime have increased but on paper there are less criminals. One more example of trying to game the system instead of solving the problems. Robots is more about spending money and raising taxes to deal with the crime wave, they recently created, while blaming everyone but themselves. The Civilians need protest the Mayor and City Councils since the bulk stops there and not at the police. That was a misdirect to escape what was due to them. They keep getting elected based on misdirection.

San Francisco police proposal could allow cops to kill suspects with robots

Robots in San Francisco could be allowed to use ‘deadly force’

San Francisco may let police robots use lethal force

If this proposal ever passess, it's officially started folks. Land of the free..err..hunted.

Let the Democrats show they're not an authoritarian party by killing this proposal instead of people instead.

Thoughts on Police wanting to use robots to fearlessly hunt down and kill civilian baddies?

I predicted tech and Ai will eventually create a dystopian society. This is just the first step.

I wonder if the proposal includes air drone executions as well as land robotics?

@Revoltingest this may be of interest to you in particular.
'“Robots will only be used as a deadly force option when risk of loss of life to members of the public or officers are imminent and outweigh any other force option available to SFPD,” part of the policy states'

Source: the first link in the OP.

So we are talking about a tool remotely controlled by officers to take down hostiles were there are no other suitable options.

So what other tools of lethal force are you suggesting we deprive the police of?

Are you also opposed to police carrying guns?

If you are why should civilians be allowed to carry tools of lethal force and not police officers.

If not what is the critical difference between a remote option and say a sniper rifle?

In my opinion.

Killer robots have great potential to reduce
problems with cops....
1) Information:
- Ensue recordings can be accessed by all appropriate parties,
not just cops.
- Ensure recording process is always on when appropriate,
& cannot be stopped or muted.
2) Safety:
- Letting robots handle dangerous situations could mitigate
the cop culture of killing civilians out of unreasonable fear.
- Providing robots with multiple less-than-lethal tools.
- Keeping cops out of harms way.
- Robots needn't kill in self defense.
- More potential for civilian oversight.
- Robot could be programmed to manipulate emotions,
eg, de-escalate.

I guess it would depend on who's programming them. It could also turn out like this:

That ED-209 is just a souped-up, armed version of Uniblab.

250

Although at least Uniblab could play cards and make coffee, which makes him more useful than ED-209.
That's just a more futuristic version
of The Master Cylinder.

A psychopath with a badge and joystick is going to have a lot of fun.

Well maybe the police who pilot said robots should first be required to undergo extensive mental health evaluation, constantly

That said, perhaps not any would pass lol
