It has been a week since Election day in the U.S. Most states have completed all their tallies. But California has yet to finalize nine Congressional district elections. Those running the elections there are incompetent and unworthy to hold their positions. They are a disgrace.

You mean that they follow the law that was put into place that makes their job harder and more time consuming?

Complain to the legislature to make it easier to verify the legitimacy of voters. They are the truly incompetent and unworthy ones.

"They" includes all those involved, whether in the legislature or any other officials. There is plenty of shame to go around. California elections are an embarrassment. Third world countries have done a better job with their elections.

Why?

They are following their Laws as set forth by the legislature.

"The county elections officials must complete the official canvass no later than the 30th day after the election and submit a certified statement of the results of the election to the Secretary of State by the 31st day," California Secretary of State's website.

"Some people have questioned why it takes so much longer in California to certify votes, when some other states were able to call all races the same night.

The simple answer is that California has made it incredibly easy to vote. Every registered voter gets a mail in ballot sent to them, and it doesn’t even have to arrive by Election Day, as long as it’s postmarked by Election Day." [ source ]

So, let me see ... make it easier for citizens to vote and irritate @Shaul and @Yerda, or be efficient like some "third world countries"? Such hard questions!

You seriously need to wipe the foam off your mouth. Just because they have a lot to count doesn't mean the incompetent and unworthy. Rather we legit have some races with less than a razor thin margin last I checked. You're just noticing it more this time because you got less than a Red Fart instead of your promised Red Wave.

Turning from the @Shaul - @Yerda angst concerning California and toward Arizona one hears ...

Additional people present have included Bannon, a former White House chief strategist and host of a far-right radio show, and Tyler Bowyer, chief operating officer of the political arm of the pro-Trump youth group Turning Point USA.

Bowyer directed efforts through Turning Point’s PAC to help Lake and a slate of GOP candidates who appear on track to win seats in the state legislature. After problems at polling sites were discovered on Tuesday, Bowyer has threatened to launch recall campaigns against Bill Gates, the Republican chair of Maricopa’s board of supervisors, which oversees Election Day operations and vote counting, and Stephen Richer, the Republican recorder responsible for early voting.

“Go talk to your neighbor about how incompetent Lil’ Bill is and help recall the people responsible for this international embarrassment,” Bowyer wrote Saturday on Twitter. [ source ]

It is a weak red whine indeed.

When was the last time an election was finished the same day? This is normal for elections. Been this way for decades. Different states have different rules for ballot counting. Been this way for decades.
You know, states rights and all....

I would say I was more puzzled (startled, perhaps) that there were races still being counted. I'm all for easy voting. ;)

Things can and should be speeded up. But I assume no one wants to get rid of this provision that slows things down:

Other factors that contribute to potential delays in counting ballots include signature verification, a requirement to perform a hand count of the ballots cast in 1 percent of the precincts and a "reconciliation of the number of ballots counted, spoiled, canceled, or invalidated due to identifying marks or overvotes with the number of votes counted, including vote-by-mail and provisional ballots," according to the California secretary of state's website.

Harvey Weinstein attorney cross-examines accuser Jennifer Siebel-Newsom

And then there was a concerted effort on the part of the right to submit their ballots at the very last second. Conspiracy theorists urge voting as late as possible on Election Day to ‘stop the steal’ Funny that @Shaul did not mention this as a possible reason for part of the problem.

In California people are allowed to mail in their ballots up till election day and election officials expect that it can take up a week to receive them by mail.

There's no "incompetence" involved. Another fake right wing outrage nothingburger to upset low information voters.

CA has a population of 38.25 million people. That is 10% of the entire US population.

It takes time to count. It always takes time to count.
Other states of comparable population do it. California could too. Indeed, it used to do so.

Bogus! California could have mail in ballots and still be able to promptly tally the results. Other states do.

No, it isn't "normal". Nor should it be tolerated.
