Gaslighting Ourselves - Denying Our Own Religious Experiences

How do you manage your religious experiences and the meaning you weave with them? Have you ever been challenged by your own inner gaslight whispering "that didn't really happen?" What did you do with that feeling? Where do you think that feeling came from? Within? Without? Where did you direct it? Do you still believe or did the magic die inside? What came of that?

These are very thought-provoking questions, Quintessence. I try to make sense of my individual religious experiences by drawing on what I’ve learned from my voracious reading or I might make analogies to other sources (like, pop culture). For example, I had an experience years ago where I had been lying down on my bed in the middle of the day, and I began to feel little tingles all over my body and – almost magnetically – more of them began to gather around my physical outline, sort of like in the anime Dragon Ball Z when Son Goku charges the Spirit Bomb. But the sources of this energy were things around me, inanimate things, not other people, plants or animals! Ever since that experience, I’ve become absolutely convinced that everything that exists in the universe participates in a limitless pool of energy, and that each thing has its own energy field, and even its own spirit.

These understandings led me recently to explore different spiritual practices which are energy-centered like Reiki, Tai Chi, Feng Shui, and chakra meditation. Of course, I’ve had a ‘New Age-y’ outlook for as long as I could remember, but until that energy transfer experience, I never fully connected with that outlook. Now, I feel interconnected with everything in existence, even the Cosmos itself.
