MTG wants to investigate corporations for the crime of not donating to Republicans.

I think we need to investigate everything. We need investigations of the investigations of the investigations of the inquiries regarding the things they want investigated. We should leave no stone unturned, even if it means a forensic analysis of every rock in the Mohave Desert. The investigators should have complete unfettered access to everything, including Area 51, every secret room at the Pentagon and CIA and NSA Headquarters, as well as that warehouse that they showed at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark which has all that stuff in it. This should be a complete and comprehensive investigation. Something is bound to turn up.

Can we investigate your browser history?

I did complain about that. Abuse of power is abuse of power regardless of who is in power at the time. What the Democrats did having the IRS open investigations (audits) into their political rivals was a horrible abuse of power and that kind of thing should not be tolerated.
Reported to the mods for being reasonable in a politics thread.

Marjorie Taylor Greene says a GOP-led House will investigate companies that stopped donating to Republicans after the Capitol riot

"You know what they did after January 6, Steve? They stopped donating. All the lobbyists, all the big corporations stopped donating to a whole bunch of my Republican colleagues that they used to donate to," Greene said.

"They said: 'Oh no, we can't support you because of the big lie,' or whatever they want to call it," she continued.

"There is going to be investigations coming," Greene added. "And there should be. There definitely should be, because the way corporations have conducted themselves, I've always called it corporate communism."

Greene also advised big businesses to "lawyer up" and focus on "customer service" instead of politics.

Is this what is going to happen? Is this what Republicans are going to do if they win the House? Is this how they are going to use their power, if they get it?

The sad reality is that most of the corporations that pledged to stop giving money to Republicans reneged on that pledge and have been donating anyway. Very likely because they feared something like this might happen.
MTG, being a staunch Republican, believes 100% in freedom -- the freedom of corporations to donate to the Republican party, and the freedom of the Republican party to punish them when they stop.

MTG is, let's not put too fine a colour on it, a complete idiot, with limited (near non-existent) general knowledge of history, geography, literature, science, philosophy. She pretended to be CFO of the company her father started, until it was noticed that she was never actually present or doing anything.

She is the quintessential "mean-girl" of American filmdom, priveleged and pampered like Amber Van Tussle in the musical Hairspray, and totally unable to figure out why she shouldn't be granted her every wish.

She will be Kevin McCarthy's very worst nightmare, except for all the other far-right MAGA caucus that he'll never be ablle to get under control.

If it wasn't so sad and geopolitically dangerous, it might even be hilarious.

Should they not be allowed to get together for political or other purpose, & have their group represented?
No, they should not! Would you really like to contemplate "Senator IBM" or "Congressman Kellogs?"

Congresspersons and Senators stand on the floor, as individual human beings, and speak and vote for themselves. I would not have it any other way.

Yes, that is one thing of which there can be no doubt.

But at the same time, she is an idiot that we cannot write off. Don't underestimate how much power she could have in a Republican House.

I am not making predictions here. She could loose her election, the Republicans might not take the house. But it is likely that she will win, and the Pubs will take the house. In which case this garbage she is saying could end up being the garbage that Congress ends up doing.

You misunderstand.
I don't propose that companies or other groups
can hold office. Only that groups should be able
to assemble, & act politically as a group.
Examples:
- Democratic National Committee
- NRA
- Unions
- IBM

I oppose giving government the power to
prevent such associations. It would be
very quickly abused. Imagine if Trump
had such authority over his enemies.

Tragically, I think that is almost a certainty.

I'm going to have to think about this...it's too complex just now, as I'm enjoying a pint (not exactly my first) in my local pub.

How would MTG know who's donating? Republicans have given corporations free reign over donating unlimited amounts of money anonymously. Their donations can't be traced back to them.

Thanks to "Citizens United" and corporate Republican elitists

I am holding out hope. For example in Georgia there are record turnouts for early voting. Record turnouts are always bad news for Republicans. The more people that vote the more likely they are to lose. And early voting is also bad news. Early voting is done more by Democrats than Republicans. The Supreme Court may have handed this election to the Democrats.

Or.... We will investigate companies that only give money to Democrats to find out if there were nefarious reasons.
How do you justify that? It's unconstitutional, illegal and that sort of thing is partly why most of the Bill of Rights centers around crime and the rights and protections of the citizens against the state and its action taken against those accused of a crime and found guilty of a crime.
It's their right to give to any party they want for as long as they want. No one is obligated to give or keep giving, and up until one of the more looney of the Reps said this it was protected First Amendment speech.
