The dentist can be intimidating, but you're fortunate you get to go. I know a few people who have teeth that are broken, crumbling/rotting and cause them serious pain, but can't afford to go to the dentist to get the problem solved.
Today when I was there they told me i will be given full knock out mode when they start fixing my teeths
i won't feel a thing before I wake up

Teeth cleansing often seems to be worse. And the difference between one who specialises in such over the normal dentist can be remarkable, as I have found out. Given the specialist moved on unfortunately and she was very careful. But then I opt out of any anesthetic used - cream or injection. Much the same as those who take a blood sample and leave one's arm bruised over those more skilled.
Fear of the dentist is more immediate
That's why people need to be reminded of long-term consequences (I have to remind myself of those all the time). They aren't right in your face, they sneak up on you.
