What happened to the 600 Club and Order of the Serpent?

Although I wasn't a member of the 600 Club or the Order of the Serpent forums, I used to lurk around on both sites occasionally. A couple of years ago the 600 club forum disappeared, then more recently the Order of the Serpent also seems to have vanished, so I'm curious to know what happened? (I think at least a couple of people here were members of one or both of those forums).

Thanks for the reply. I know that Michael Aquino passed away, and that he was a prolific contributor to the 600 club forum (I enjoyed many of his posts there, and how he'd calmly respond to some of the more uncouth members trying to provoke him!) but I don't see why his passing would have anything to do with the forum shutting down completely?

You're right. Correlation does not prove causation.

It seems that specific forums have a shelf life. Sometimes it's due to insufficient numbers interested in maintaining forums. Other times it's due to infighting getting out of hand.

I do miss both.

I owned and operated the Order of the Serpent site for several years. At the end there were many technical issues I couldn't resolve without significant investment, and I needed to focus on personal problems. But by that time most of the official members had become uninterested or departed, and the forum was becoming a ghost-town so I pulled the plug.

I'm not sure what happened to 600C, but I suspect they had similar problems to mine. In both cases the software was antiquated, and in my case the server no longer supported it, which presumably happened to them as well (unless they owned their own server). There are other possibilities but that seems the most likely to me.

Sorry to see the Order of the Serpent disappear, there were several good discussions.
The 600 Club self-imploded from douchebaggery after Dr. Aquino passed. It was moving in that direction anyway. The first generation of Satanists were simply nasty edgelords, the next influx was uneducated, infantile, role-playing occultnicks, the same that you find all over Assbook. Good riddence.

It did seem a bit toxic, which is something I sought to avoid without being overboard on rules and regulations.

It seems that specific forums have a shelf life.

Bad decisions on my part didn't help matters. Even so, I wonder if it survived on borrowed time in today's world of social media. I also tend to think that people often give up when their posts are met with little or no interest, which shouldn't be surprising given the diversity of the WLHP.

The Order of the Serpent dissolving was best for those involved and just a natural conclusion. I consider it an "experiement", and I think we were pretty successful. You can find all 4 newsletters, the book, and the last archive of the forums here: https://xeperamaset.wixsite.com/xep...he-imperishable-star-and-black-magic-101-pdfs

To me the most important lesson from that group was that of solidarity and individualism. Everything was fine until we started trying to organize the Left Hand Path - an act I now realize is inherently contradictory. We were all evolving speedily until it became about the group instead of about ourselves. I cannot speak for others but that time in my life was horrid, I actually returned to the RHP for a few months, was in an extremely toxic relationship, was having addiction problems again with pain medicine, and was really struggling with finding myself and my identity on either the Left nor RHP.

Like my patron I tend to be abrupt, chaotic, isolationist, etc. so pretty much went out with a bang, and I think things fell apart after that. Didn't know it at the time but I am on the spectrum, I think that really helped drive the movement as a whole. (Note I am not taking credit for the O.S., rather I am simply annoyingly persistent in moving things forward and creation of new content at times.) But in the end it is for the better, I think we are all better off, and I still talk to many of the people I met in those days (or here). One is even coming to my wedding, we literally met on the O.S. forums. No regrets at all.

600c, well... can we talk ill about the dead?

I don't really think the 600 Club going away had anything to do with Aquino. It was around long before he was a regular and for quite a while after he left us. I loved that he posted a lot and I felt kind of star-struck to have conversations with him, I don't think he was ever one of the main contributors.

Yeah, that place was mean as hell, but they seemed to like it that way. This thread is how I'm first finding out about them being gone.

Oh well.

I felt compelled to reply to this because I've been watching "The Munsters" with my kid a lot lately and Dr. Aquino always reminded me of Grandpa Munster.

Sweet.

edited to add: I think he would love that there's internet memes about him. I remember he made a website about himself with his face photoshopped onto Indiana Jones and ****.

Agree with him or not, I think he was one cool cat.

Agreed! I had the absolute pleasure of talking to him rather consistently the last 2 years of his life via private correspondence. Was the middle man for his only Reddit AMA too. Really good dude. You can see some of that stuff here including the AMA:
