House Republican Leader McCarthy unveils "Commitment to America"

The "A future That's Built on Freedom" page was hilarious. Their ****-poor record regarding liberty aside (bodily autonomy, gay marriage, cannabis legalization, etc.) that page only highlighted their desire to keep the quality of education subpar, to keep the healthcare system a predatory debt-inducing racket, and to prevent private companies from filtering hate speech and misinformation on their own platforms.

Well I looked over the link, and the republicans point out problems (that is what they do the best, complain), like the supply line problems, but they don't say how they would fix it. Look for yourself, it offers no solution. Could that be because supplies come from nations we have no control over?

And more tax cuts? How will that help cover the budget?

And it says this:

"Curb wasteful government spending that is raising the price of groceries, gas, cars, and housing, and growing our national debt"

Really, how does wasteful government speending cause inflation? And what do they consider "wasteful"?

They offer no actual solution to stop and reverse inflation in a real and practical way. Inflation will resolve itself eventually, but there is no plan from Rrepublicans other than waiting as we are doing now.

And energy?

"Maximize production of reliable, American-made energy"

Does this include green and renewable energy? They have a history of resisting these, so why no more details?

"Cut the permitting process time in half to reduce reliance on foreign countries, prevent rolling blackouts, and lower the cost of gas and utilities"

There are already thousands of permits out there not being used. So this is irrelevant.

They should change the title of the platform to "Commitment to the Party Line," because it seems more concerned with garnering votes by appealing to fearmongering and buzzwords than actually addressing national problems.

The fact that the page on national security doesn't explicitly mention mass shootings and easy access to firearms seems to me a reinforcement of the above impression.

I guess you missed the part where it mentioned the over $9,000,000,000,000 in spending the Democrats have since Biden took office. Or the part about repealing spending such as for 87,000 more IRS agents. Both of which are certainly under our control.

"Democrats are the party of crime."

Is this accurate? They cite some disturbing facts, and one is that crime is increasing all over the USA. There are police retiring and having a hard time recruiting more officers. Democrats fault? How? Sure the "defund the police" phrase was a stupid idea, and it is made worse by conservatives lying about what it means. And with more police being videoed violating civil rights it is no wonder the police have a bad reputation and hard time hiring new people.

The link says it will make things better by reducing crime, but how? This is mostly local problems, not sometghing congress can solve, unless they are going to spend more on police. Is this "wasteful" or not?

The link does do pretty well in pointing out problems, but it is quite vague and over-confident in showing republicans have any comprehensive and effective plans.

They give lip service to their constituents' sentiments; lathering them up with religious and patriotic claptrap and then spooking them with gun grabbing and brown people. Of course they don't offer actual solutions to anything, as they're beholden to the insurance lobby, the oil lobby, the gun lobby, etc. not the little guy.

So? Are suggesting not paying our bills? We have to manage the United States of America, over 330 million people, and that costs money to help maintain stability.

And tax fraud is rampant, so you don't want the government to make sure everyone who takes advantage of public resources from paying their legally obligated taxes?

Commitment to America
Some mixed thoughts (I read the card not the entire thing yet):
In general I agree with the economy items.
On safety, The feds are not supposed to fund or control the police.
Same concern for the DA's. I think some of them really need to be fired if not jailed, but its not the feds job.
I want a strong military I also want us to stop being in everyone's business.

Education is not a federal job. They should butt-out entirely.
I liked Rand Paul's health care idea years back. Let people form groups to buy insurance. Transparency is good, but the dim wits that wrote HIPAA, Obamacare and the No Surprises acts are ether woefully uninformed or down right evil. The solution has often been worse than the problem. The feds really are not supposed to be in this to begin with. They should make a tactful exit and just deal with issues that cross state lines.
There is a decent argument for cyber crime and related threats to fall under federal power so good with that.
The Unborn don't have federal protection anymore than a random guy living in China.
I'm all for protecting the 1st and 2nd A's (and the rest of the Bill of Rights. I notice the plan is not talking about the 9th and 10th amendments)
Voter ID laws are a state issue.
I'd love to see them address abuses in DC. Perhaps they can start with those of their own party who just voted away some of our sovereignty.
The abuses of big tech are a nightmare. Things need to be done, but I'm not sure they have a good plan.

They can start being honorable and pro-America by denouncing Trump and MAGAs.

They then should denounce all people who are running for office who promise to not certify elections that go for a democrat. They should promise to oen up voting access in all states, and work with bipartisan democrats to create fair congressional districts.

They aren't doing this now, so what good would a promise be?

Commitment to America
Let us know when the Pubs decide when to invest in that which reduces human suffering, such as universal healthcare, fighting climate change, truly helping those seeking asylum, not giving big tax breaks mainly for the wealthy, child & adult daycare, post high school education support, not restricting minority voting rights, etc.

We know their values. We saw how they voted. We see what their state legislators and governors are doing and what kind of people they are. They want to undermine democracy and control elections and support a theocratic agenda. They are contemptuous of the rule of law. Their vision has the middle class decimated. Government dollars should not be spent on them. They would roll back greenhouse gas and drug negotiating progress and eliminate the recent tax increases on the wealthy. They would trash the infrastructure spending. They would increase drilling and exploiting national parks. They would roll back environmental protections.

And of course, own the libs and Democrats like gremlins exposed to water with punitive investigations, impeachments, and other acts of vengeance.

One would have to be Charlie Brown to believe anything they say.

If you repeal spending the additional money for IRS agents, you need to factor in reduced revenue.
Looking at things through a lens of cost (only) is somewhat pointless.

I agree with your point about spending by government having the potential to increase inflationary pressures, and most 'First World' democracies are suffering that right now. It would be completely disingenuous to claim Biden has driven inflation up without acknowledging the many sources of inflation outside his control. But it is fair to suggest government spending has contributed to some degree in terms of the amount.

On the contrary, it is precisely because we must pay our bills that we don't spend more until we can.

Equating more IRS agents with tax fraud reduction doesn't follow. Tax revenue collection is already up and at record levels. On the other hand, the new agents could be related to weaponizing and politicizing the IRS.

On the contrary, it is precisely because we must pay our bills that we don't spend more until we can.
Then why are republicans so eagar to cut taxes, and then only opt to cut social services? The Bush Jr administration cut taxes and went on a spending spree to cover two war costs without any policies to pay for it except budget cuts. There was so much money in the economy and banks that the greed and lax ethics led to the housing bubble and the collapse of many banks, that the USA then bailed out.

Even Trump's tax cuts of 2017 were supposed to stimulat the economy but never did, and the deficit grew. Again, corporations got richer, along with banks, and the averagre citizen got table scraps. With all this money circulating in the economy with the rich getting richer, there is no universal healthcare. Wages are going up but this is part of the messed up global economics. I think the US government was way too generous with stimulus checks, as I know many people who got them and have plenty already.

So obviously neither party can balance the budget. You claiming we should balance it is arguable, but we can't always know what will be needed as an expense, like the Bush wars. Like the pandemic. This is why we need a stable enonomy with a healthy middle class.

Weaponizing the IRS? Are you afraid? Are right wingers afraid? What's going on?
