Why I Still Call Myself Pagan

This gentleman hit a few good points on this topic. But kind of like they say, it's because it fits.

But. It's a catchall term for any number of Devotional, Ecstatic, Polytheistic, Magickal and ultimately Nature oriented practices. And yes I think all five of these are important to have in some degree to be considered under "big tent Paganism".

And yes, depending on the company and knowledge of those I'm talking with or where we are, this label shifts around (Druid, Polytheist, Mage).

@The Hammer, being a Wiccan and a polytheist has been a very positive experience for me. I can genuinely say that it fits my life perfectly. Sadly, I can't say the same when I was a Christian for thirty years. Thank you for posting the article. I truly appreciate it.

Words, expression, spoken or written is what we Christians call the Logos. In the beginning was the Word (Logos) It's said to be God in John - Divine expression, written and/or spoken words and creative force - Music, art, words (language), anything relative to conveying a message or truth to another. I read your signature. Paganism? Well, it's a big tent - Some of which found its way in my belief system. I'm fairly certain a great deal has been borrowed from - "The big tent". I don't call myself a pagan, but I'm not unfamiliar with paganism - at least not the nature oriented type. Sun, (moon?), wind, rain, fire ... earth - These are very significant in my faith. God a consuming fire, floods, dust of the ground, flaming swords, life under the sun, breath of life/God's spirit, etc. These are all natural to us, yet often viewed as something other than. How is Pagan defined anyway?

I call myself a Pagan as I'm not Abrahamic. It may be old-fashioned now but that's the definition I go by.

As a Hindu, I am pagan, but not a Pagan (an abbreviated title given to a follower of a neo-Pagan religion).

Note, they commented they're lowercase pagan rather than uppercase Pagan. The latter indicates the modern Pagan religious movement aka Neopaganism or Contemporary Paganism. The dictionary entry pertains to the former, not the latter.

A couple of questions ..,
  1. Why is considering "pagan" to be an ambiguous term combative?
  2. What "figures"?
  3. Why "Yawn." Though HTML5 tags are not case sensitive, using lower case continues to be seen as "best practice."
