Spiritual Warfare

The Baptist church I'm attending is studying Spiritual Warfare. Some church members believe that if, for example, they have car trouble over and over again or if several home applicances break down over a short period of time that the devil is attacking them. I wondered if it is possible for evil spirits to manipulate material objects.

I've also heard it said that nautral disasters are due to the evil spirits. Can anyone give some insight to the workings of evil spirits.

spiritual warfare is like tempting the flesh with stealing, sex, etc
just because your car broke down just means you didn't fix it when it needed to be.

sometime's those sign'e you think is satan is really just you not taking care of your responsibilities.

I agree, there are things that happen to us just because we live in a fallen world, which "waxeth old like a garment" (also a scientific law). Things break down. That being said, the Bible teaches that God will 'rebuke the devourer' when we give our money, time, talents, etc. to him. (O.T.) but still relevant. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, and spiritual warfare is very real. As Ephesians says, put on the whole armour of God and you will be fine.

I agree too that things wear out or fall apart and it is not the fault of evil spirits or lack of responsibility on ones part and that sometimes we do neglect taking care of our wares. Aside of that I had a hard time thinking that satan or evil spirits can actually manipulate material objects to irritate God's people or keep them from service. Could someone point me to a scripture that says satan or evil spirits can actually manipulate material objects?

Thanks, SaraLee

Hi again. I'm coming back to the topic of spiritual warfare in hopes that anyone can point to scriptural proof that satan or evil spirits in fact can manipulate material objects to try and defeat a Christian. In the book our Sunday School is now using, it states lots of scriputure showing how satan attacks us and all I've read seems to indicate the attacks are in the form of messing with our minds and emotions which stir us into wrongful action but no where do I see anything that talks about material manipulation.

So I ask again if anyone knows of scripture(s) that clearly states it is possible for satan or evil spirits to mess with our cars or mess with objects such as washers or dryers or for that matter, make any material object break or mal-function. Even the book itself does not specifically say it is possible. I did ask the question of several church members but did not get a specific scripture to back this belief up even though they defiantely believe it is possible. Can anyone help?

Sure. I imagine the best reference people with this belief may use is the Book of Job. In Job Satan gives Job boils, causes his house to collapse, his animals to die etc etc.

baptists and spiritual warfare?

you jest!

As a Baptist who is engaged in spiritual warfare I must take issue with that. You sound as if you hate Baptists or perhaps feel that you are superior.
