I am mad

Nah. Im not that mad. I'm just mad. And I've calmed a bit to realize may be I'm making too big of a deal. I'll still talk to higher up about it. I dont agree with the rule and want it changed. But im starting to see their reasoning
You could be subversive and wear it under a jumper. :)

I pay the group home. It is my house. Group homes are supposed to work for the residents not the other way around. I will be trying to get said rule changed

It is within your right to try to get that rule changed so you can wear the shirt. Are you planning to discuss it with the supervisor there?

Here's what I think you should do... take some tape and cover up the 4-letter word. And then every time anyone asks you what the shirt actually says, tell them something different:
  1. I'm a Ray of Baking Sunshine
  2. I'm a Ray of Murdering Sunshine
  3. I'm a Ray of Conceptualizing Sunshine (this one just because it is obviously too long to fit)
  4. I'm a Ray of Confounding Sunshine
  5. I'm a Ray of Alarming Sunshine
  6. I'm a Ray of Misbehaving Sunshine
  7. I'm a Ray of Bleaching Sunshine
  8. I'm a Ray of Crushing Sunshine
  9. I'm a Ray of Exploding Sunshine
  10. I'm a Ray of Inlaying Sunshine (throw in a few that don't make sense)
  11. I'm a Ray of Lightning Sunshine (whatever this is, it sounds cool)
  12. I'm a Ray of Relaxing Sunshine
  13. I'm a Ray of Stinking Sunshine (just a hint of self-deprecation and sarcasm)
  14. etc.
And then any number of positive fakes just to keep throwing everyone off, like "Inspiring", "Sparkling", "Warming", etc. The point would be to try and tell someone a different answer two or more times and watch the look on their face.

That is not a bad idea actually. I could have a lot of fun with that

Do you think the higher ups would be more likely to listen if I go ahead and comply with the rules taking the shirt off or if I continue not comply until the 5th when i talk to higher ups?

They would probably be more willing to listen if you took it off now, honestly. It would show your willingness to be reasonable and compromise.

Cuz i like the shirt. As for offending anyone it doesn't matter. Nondisabled adults are allowed to wear whatever they want on their downtime. Just cuz im disabled and live in a group home doesn't change the fact I am an adult.

When you become lord of your own castle, you can wear whatever you want. Until then, there will be rules, and you must be mindful of how your actions might affect the other people living under the same roof.

Many people feel that way about some common beliefs among conservative Christians. Should that be grounds for asking them not to voice their opinions at all?

I don't think so, and I see no reason not to apply the same logic to the OP's case. They're an adult among other adults, although I personally wouldn't wear such a shirt in a large gathering unless I knew it would be okay with everyone--just out of respect for the general atmosphere and other people.
I also think people should be free to express their opinions. As I said, I do think it is best to use discretion and try to consider others as much as possible.

Guys I doubt they see it as treating me like a child.
They probably just wanted to not have folk think poorly of the facility. And they probably dont realize what it's like to be infantalise cuz of your disability all the time. So they didn't think about how its a double standard.

I've calmed down enough to point this out.

Imma tag @The Hammer cuz i figured he was trying to say that earlier but i was too pissed off to listen

Sorry if i was a bit harsh to you earlier

So I live in a group home for disabled folk as you all know. My dad got me a shirt. It say I'm a Ray of ****ing Sunshine on it. Problem is higher ups do not want me to wear it. Said I am not allowed to. This pissed me off. I am not working here. I am a resident. I am not about to go to work anywhere. Im wearing it on my downtime. Nondisabled folk on their downtime get to wear whatever language they like on their shirts. Just cuz I am disabled and live in a group home doesn't mean i shouldn't wear whatever language I like on my shirt when relaxing on my downtime. To me it is terribly infantalizing and offensive they want me to change my shirt. I am not a child. I should not be treated like one. It may seem like I'm making a big deal out of nothing. But stuff like this happens all the time in my life where just cuz I'm disabled im treated like a child. I've heard countless times people using a baby voice on me. I've even had folk pat me on the head(not at the group home tho some the staff have used the baby voice). I've been told by folk I shouldnt cuss when they never say that to nondisabled folk and sometimes cuss themselves. I've had folk implied not at the group home but outside of it that I am somehow unable to consent to sex just cuz I'm disabled. For once dont infantalise me. Just let me wear a whatever shirt i want on my down time. Like every adult that isnt disabled. I am not hurting anyone. I told them I won't be taking the shirt off unless they plan on kicking me out for it and they said theyll have me talk to the supervisor on the 5th.

I suppose it would depend on whether they're attempting to enforce some specific rule that they're supposed to follow, in which case they should have something in writing. On the other hand, if this is just someone in a lower level position deciding that they don't like your shirt and making up their own rules, then that may not fly.

On the other hand, I've heard of some communities where it's actually against the law to swear in public, so I suppose it could also apply to wearing apparel. I remember reading about a guy in Michigan who got fined for swearing in public.

I see the shirt should not have been printed with these types of words on them. They are not appropriate and never will be IMHO.

So, I guess you can be mad at me as well. I would not appreciate it being worn.

All the best and much happiness though. :)
