It is often hormonal. Gay men tend to have older brothers, so the mothers' testosterone levels may be low. Also, maternal stress is a factor.

Yes, it is mostly hormones as the research has repeatedly shown. Our sex drive is largely determined by them, and sometimes they don't match the "equipment".

That is a humongous a can of worms.
It opens the door to other things a person is based on using one's biological makeup.

The brain controls certain things, depending on its physical make up. Fetuses are physically female at first, then hormones cause changes if it's a male. Hormones cause other changes too. The brain and body change at different times during gestation and sometimes they both don't change. Different areas of the brain can be affected. That doesn't mean anything can be attributed to that, but certain things like sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. Not whether or not someones is sexually attracted to children, animals, or feels like they are a purple spotted monkey.
