Syntheism

Exaltist Ethan

Bridging the Gap Between Believers and Skeptics
I don't see much syntheists (the theology) or Syntheists (the religion) on this forum. So I was thinking maybe you'd like to know more about it, straight from a syntheist himself.

I am creating this thread to further explain my apparently unknown beliefs to outsiders. I will cover as much territory as I can.

There are many words to describe this and my belief system. Earthseed is one of them. Earthseed is the world's easiest religion to understand, yet the hardest to implement. Earthseed can be summed up into one sentence. God is change.

Syntheism is the theology of Earthseed; the theology simply says that the change we are causing is creating God. There are two basic ideas to syntheism: one strain comes from atheism, the other comes from pantheism. Atheist syntheists believe there is no God now, but we will create God and then everything will be God. Pantheistic syntheism, my belief, is that everything is God, but our change will make God better.

And then there is my specific strain of syntheism, which I call Exaltism. It is a very advanced form of Earthseed and syntheism. My philosophy, theology, or whatever of Exaltism basically believes in a ten-point axis of divinity, a reformed version of the Kardashev scale to indicate where our species is right now and most importantly, a trinitarian view point of God: The Omniverse, Extropy and Entropy.

All action is entropy or extropy; all change comes from the interaction between these actions and the being, The Omniverse. Why does evil exist? Entropy. How does good exist? Extropy. Chaos and order are essential for life on this Universe to exist.

My religious bio was originally Exaltism but I decided to use terminology boarder than that; and to use words I didn't invent. I realize that syntheism as a theology is a very new theology, as well as the Earthseed religions, including but not limited to: Terasem, Turing Church, Exaltism and Astronism.

Earthseed was developed in the 1990's in the fictional writings of The Parable of the Sower and syntheistic religions are even newer, appearing in the first years of the 21st century. Most of these religions have no rituals, no commandments and are essentially D.I.Y. faiths - if we are creating God though technology, then it is up us on how we do it, and no book can really tell us how to create the best God possible; although that would be a very interesting book.

Syntheists in general don't like to see religion and irreligion as black and white concepts; there is many shades of grey and colors in between them. The religious would say "God loves you", the irreligious would say, "God doesn't love you" and I would contend to say that parts of God love me. But rather, most of God is completely unaware of my existence, that I am extremely lucky and fortunate to be alive and very little of God actually intentionally doesn't want my existence to be.

As far as the afterlife goes, this is also simple. Not only is there no afterlife, but you aren't aware of it when you die. So, if the Turists are correct, quantum archeology will not only resurrect all seventy-two billion dead people but it will also appear as if you just woke up from nothing. And as far as free will and determination goes, I will quote my friend and colleague Guilio Prisco by saying, "I suspect consciousness and free will are the same thing."

Syntheism is very new and its implications are not entirely understood yet, not even by me. A few hundred years will pass and I suspect syntheism will replace not only atheism and pantheism but also monotheism and polytheism as well. I currently have the most advanced form of syntheism there is; Exaltism. However, there is still work that needs to be done. One day I would like to be an accomplished author for this change, even if that means sending my work to a publisher's house.

Syntheism isn't about understanding God but understanding what God can do. It isn't belief; it's knowledge. When people start to realize this whole "God of the Gaps" they will come to understand there is three things that cannot not exist: The Omniverse, Entropy and Extropy. Action and being. I do not consider myself entirely Spinozist, by any measure yet he understood God in an age where nobody really knew what God was.

Please, if you so desire ask me questions about this new concept. I have educated myself extremely well on these matters. I am no longer in dasein and have found a theology for myself that is both materialistic and religious at the same time.

I wish to be the change I see in the world, and for me I see it as syntheism.

How does this contrast with the concept of discovering God?

How does this contrast with the concept of discovering God?

A Christian discovers God through the Bible; a syntheist creates God through technology. These concepts are not entirely unique; one could do one, the other or both. There is a group called the Mormon Transhumanist Association whose theology comprises of both restorationist Christianity and syntheistic understandings.

... and remember, according to South Park only Mormons go to Heaven. (even if God is a Buddhist)

Edit: A pantheistic syntheist creates a better God through technology.

My first question would be why use the label 'God'? If you are creating or inventing something new, why use a term that has a long history of specific associations?

What is your definition of this word 'God'?

Something that can change and change other things.

Then why use the label 'God'? Your definition has nothing in common with traditional or common usage of that word.

Additionally, such a definition is so vague as to be useless. A tornado can change and change other things. Fire would also apply. What in that definition merits religious interest? All I see so far is atheistic physicalism.

You just defined Life and Humanity. We are Gods.

You see what you want to see. You are seeing God as this very specific thing; both of you; and both of you are completely incorrect on how I see God. A tornado is a byproduct of entropic natural causes; so is fire - although fire used correctly can also be extropy; both entropy and extropy are in my trinity view of God. Of course, entropy and extropy can only exist as actions if there is something to change; the being; The Omniverse.

As far as life and humanity being Gods, that is also a narrow scope of what God is. I am a pantheist, I see God in everything; not just our species, but everything. Everything changes - becoming more or less chaotic, evolving in many different ways. Humans are special in the way the we are able to use our utilities for remarkable things; to ponder, to wonder, to understand the environment we are in, in remarkable ways. Such as the development on pantheism, syntheism, etc. But that doesn't mean we are Gods - it just means we have a larger fraction of divinity than other species on Earth. Pantheists believe in one God; many will call it the Universe, I call it The Omniverse. Humans are just a very small fraction of this Omniverse.

Also, I would like to point out that I am not posting this in interfaith debates. Do not argue to me about what I believe.

Your caution is noted and I apologize. My intent was not to debate but to draw out details of what is being discussed. Thank you for indulging me this far.
