My baby has RSV

Draka

I ended up having to take my baby to the hospital today because he was just not getting any better. Worse actually. Wheezing and coughing badly. Anyway, after the list of tests was done it turns out that Jamie has RSV. He had a nebulizer treatment at the hospital and we had a nebulizer sent home with us for his treatments.

Other than his nebulizer treaments and the occassional baby motrin for fever and achiness, is there any suggestions as to what may help him feel better? Anyone deal with this with their kids that can lend some suggestions?

I hope your little love gets well soon! I was able to find this on home treatment, but I'm afraid I don't know what else to do. When my daughter was an infant and having issues breathing from a stuffy nose, we let her sleep in her car seat so she would be more upright and ran the humidifier, but I don't know if that would help. I would call a pharmacist to see if he or she has any additional suggestions to make your child more comfortable.

He sleeps in his bouncy chair okay and that keeps him more seated. We have the humidifiers going too. I'm using the bulb syringe regularly too. I'm beginning to wonder if giving him cough medicine is even worth it though. As he really doesn't like it and screams and it doesn't really do anything for him anyway.

I tried to use a bulb syringe with my daughter, but she just wouldn't have it. She also won't have anything to do with saline nasal spray and thermometers. Do what you can, give him lots of snuggles and try to rest some yourself. :flower:

I'll echo what Evearael said! Please be sure you're getting plenty of rest!

When my little sister had this, my family had just moved to South Carolina. For some reason, drinking sweet iced tea really helped her. I hope Jamie gets better really soon!

Make sure you disinfect the bulb syringe regularly or you will propogate more virus cells....also make sure you wash your hands, etc whenever dealing with his secretions. Also run his toys through the dishwasher if possible....
This is really contagious and hard to get rid of if you leave traces on things he still handles, etc.

When Em was Jamie's age, she went through the same thing. I know this is rough for all of you.

I agree with the advice to have Jamie sleep as upright as possible. A humidifier is also an excellent idea.

My girls always enjoyed a good vapo bath and the Johnson & Johnson vapo type rub always gave them a bit of relief, although, you'd have to check the label as I'm not sure if the products are recommended for babies 3months and older or 5months and older.

Tylenol Cold also gave them some relief from the symptoms. If your doctor recommends it...a good infant decongestant would give baby some relief. My pediatrician okayed Infant Tylenol Cold for Em, who was around five months.

Wishing your little one a quick recovery. Hope you all are able to give some rest.

Thank you to those who have sent their good wishes: evearael, Meggie, lizskid, dawny, thank you.

He's not liking the whole nebulizer thing at all. He cries and screams for most the way through it. I guess on the plus side though, he's getting big breaths of it when he's screaming like that. He's sleeping most the day away. He's awake in patches and those patches are filled with crying and fussing. Poor thing.:( Makes me sad just looking at him and how miserable he is.

If you lived in my area in Texas I could give you the number for my Chinese doctor, he cures many things that are supposed to be uncureable. You should try to maybe find someone respected in your area. Talk to any martial artists masters in your area or google some alternatives. They may help whatever other measures you are taking.

I hope it helps. I will ask my teacher tomorrow if there is anything he has heard of that may help insha Allah. I hope Allah brings your child peace.

Peace,

Mujahid
