Would you let your child go to a private school (say a catholic school) knowingthat he/she would get a better education regardless of what religion they pratice? Would any of you that are Christian let your child go to a school ran by Pagans know they would get a better edcuation?

I posted this in another fourm I can't remember if I did here or not sorry if this is a respost....

If a Catholic school offered a better education than the public school in the area, then I would have no problems sending them to that school.

As long as they wouldn't be ostrasized for their faith and were exposed to many different viewpoints, I would be happy with my theorhetical child going to whatever school fits their learning style best.

Gotta say, though- I'm about as Pagan as they come, and I love my belief system, but cannot imagine what a school run by us would be like.

Probably lots of singing, costumes, and field trips. =D

I have to agree with you about the school thing though, I would probably hesitate to send my kids to a Protestant school since they tend to be more attentive and unfriendly toward kids who are of a different religion. Catholic schools don't seem to mind much as long as you don't make it an issue. At least, that's been my experience and the experience of my mother (who has taught in a few religious schools).

Anything to keep my kids out of the hands of the stupid politicians who only use our tax money to educate our kids enough and keep them healthy enough to hold a rifle and die for our country.

Not that I am against this per se, but my children will have a classical education.

I have often thought of sending her to the local Catholic school...my only problem would be with the religious teachings..I wish there was one run by Pagans around here!

That depends on what you mean by "better education." I can't stress this enough--test scores cannot and will not tell the whole story.

Dunno how many of you are familiar with Waldorf schools, but many of them definitely have a pagan flavor mixed in. :)

My preference would be classical homeschooling rather than either, but I would have to weigh the individual schools on their own merits and flaws. I've been to both good and bad religious and public schools. Catholic school provided a wonderful, nurturing environment for me to learn, while Lutheran school provided quite the opposite. I've been thrown down a flight of stairs at a bad public school and provided the opportunity to pursue a wide variety of interests, from Macroeconomics to Japanese, in a good public school. If I had to choose which ones to send my own child to, it would be the good Catholic school and the good public school... though I am not a Catholic.

Reason, and reason again
It depends on the level of difference between the local public school and the private school. Being that I want to teach at a public school, I'm going to do my best to work at a facility (like my own) that has a record of success.

If, for some reason or another, I was caught in an area that did not perform to my standards at all, I would consider a private school, even if I had religious differences. I think a Roman Catholic school would provide me with little woes -- however, the conservative demominations I would avoid at all cost.
