So, can you please provide for me some real medical reports made within the last 10 years or so that demonstrates that masturbation is bad for one's health?
Having studied sexual psychology and biology for my job, everything I have read purports the exact opposite, and I would go so far as to say that it is more than beneficial for a healthy sex life.

any man should be able to tell you if he knows his body at all.

i see you have not read any of the suggested material. that is your choice. doctors are trained to diagnose and prescribe.

You provided religious and philosophical material written by someone who has no purported medical training. Such a person is not qualified to determine whether or not soemthing is healthy.
So, I ask again, for real medical proof of your assertion. If you cannot provide it, then your comments are without merit or basis in fact.
Some things are a matter of opinon, and other things are a matter of fact. This is the latter, and the facts say that you're wrong.
You can say it's improper or sinful, but to say it's unhealthy is 100% untrue.

And how do most men learn about their bodies? hmmmm...let's think about that one. Here's another tidbit for you:

Is Masturbation Harmful?

In general, the medical community considers masturbation to be a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women. It does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body, and can be performed in moderation throughout a person's lifetime as a part of normal sexual behavior. Some cultures and religions oppose the use of masturbation or even label it as sinful. This can lead to guilt or shame about the behavior.
Some experts suggest that masturbation can actually improve sexual health and relationships. By exploring your own body through masturbation, you can determine what is erotically pleasing to you and can share this with your partner. Some partners use mutual masturbation to discover techniques for a more satisfying sexual relationship and to add to their mutual intimacy.

Question:
Can masturbation effect my helth physically or mentally? I masturbate regularly and i also have problems with consentration could the two be related?
Answer:
Absolutely not. Masturbation, as long as you are not angry at yourself for doing it, is a fabulous thing for your body. It improves your circulation, makes you live longer, get's your heart pumping better, makes you fall asleep easier, gives you more sexual feelings - all in all it rocks! Anything negative people have told you about masturbation is false. The only thing that could be bad about it is that it should be done in a private area and if you do it too hard or without lubrication you could chafe yourself raw.

The information you are tossing up for perusing can also readily be found in any tai chi ch'uan books that speak of longevity but is at no time common knowledge for the average man. That said, your quote above should say "most men should not be able to tell you unless he was enlightened," and even that statement would be up for debate.

yes, even small amounts of research will show you that it is unhealthy. if you take the time to read any recommended things in the post above you would see that. but i suppose making an uninformed condescending reply is good too.
How is it supposed to be unhealthy? Please posts some real medical information on this.

Not only is masturbation healthy and normal, it is beneficial psychologically, physically, and for your relationships!
Masturbation reduces stress, releases a "buildup" of stress, releases endorphins that make a person happier and have more energy, and it can even reduce the pain of menstrual cramps. Many other physical benefits have alreday been posted.
Masturbation is also practice for sexual intercourse in a relationship - when you masturbate, you understand which actions and which places bring you sexual pleasure, and then you can relay this information to your partner and the experience can be better for everyone; If you go in and have to leanr everything from scratch, it will take a few times for the experience to be as fun and pleasurable. Going in with no knowledge of how sexual pleasure works, and having high expectations of how wonderful the "first time" will be, can lead to a large let down.

Additionally, if you want to stay abstinate until marriage, what better way to stave off the desire for sexual intercourse by having sex with yourself instead? Masturbation has never gotten anyone pregnant, never given anyone an STD, and never made anyone go crazy.

This myth originated with an anti-masturbation tract that was written in 1712 as a way to sell a bogus “tonic” that was supposed to stop the disease of “self-pollution”. Through the years there have been many colorful attempts to pathologize masturbation. They say it will make you go blind, it will give you acne, and it will grow hair on your palms. All claims that have been refuted by science. Today virtually all physicians and scholars agree that masturbation is harmless.

it is interesting that what your post refers to as a "myth" started from something in 1712. what is more interesting is that the negative effects of ejaculation have been documented in chinese medical texts for THOUSANDS of years.

Yes, and today we rely soley on ancient chineese medicine to tell us everything we need to know about the human body and all conditions, viruses and diseases. Ancient Chineese medicine also bases most of it remedies and problems with the body on life-force energy called "Chi", which today is used in many new-age practices. Do you believe in Chi? If you don't then Chineese medicine is worthless to you.
You do realize that you are also ignoring thousands of years of medical research and advances, right? Or, do you think that they knew more about the human body than our best trained medical researches and doctors do today?

Additionally, do you have any references to these ancient chineese theories on why it's bad for your health? Do you have any references at all you subtantiate your claims? I could go on for days with medical resources that claim the opposite, so I think it's only fair that I get to see your evidence.

Please provide set in stone evidence to back up your claims, yours is a very very weak argument so far!

Believe it or not, i have actually studied the biology of masterbation (sexual selection and reproduction courses at uni). In females it is harmless, it reduces stress and i know of no known negative consequences.

In males, which have been researched more for some reason  , we see the same stress relieving benefits, but more importantly, regular masterbation (or sex) helps prevent the build up of possibly carcinogenic toxins in the prostate gland.

Lol! This is great! I've heard a lot of spiritually compelling reasons to avoid masturbation, but yet to hear any good physical ones. Even the "medical" reasons that are being brought up here are only "medical" in a spiritual context, which makes them moot.

I'm with Halcyon and the others: I have yet to see a shred of evidence that it's unhealthy. Moreover, how can selflove be unhealthy whilst sex is not? As if the body actually knows the difference. It's strictly a mental thing.

Hell, to take this one step further, I read a book called Peace Between the Sheets which promotes having no orgasm as sexual healing. It touts orgasms as a bad thing, and that people even suffer from orgasm hangovers.

I fail to see how something so natural can be bad for you. The way I see it, it's difficult to love others when you can't love yourself. Physically or emotionally!

John 313,

You know, it seems to me that anyone that has to try to convince others that masturbation is unhealthy when medical evidence overwhelmingly proves otherwise, is probably trying to convince themselves really. It appears you have some serious hang-ups and issues surrounding masturbation and perhaps that is indicative of something else.

It truly has nothing to do with "being enlightened". Trying to play off that you are more "enlightened" than the rest of us mere "average" folks and that is why you are the only one that can see the so-called dangers is pretty lame in my opinion. You are basing all this on belief. Medically you are wrong. Plain and simple. You can believe anything you like, but do not try to present it as fact.

It's because men do it more often, and more men than women masturbate. You'd be surprised at the number of women who don't know how to, or who have never had an orgasm! :cover:  My work is never done, apparently :p

I hear ya MaddLlama! I was at a stagette party and we played Never Have I Ever, and I was surprised at how many women there cringed at the masturbation question after admitting to some of the most quesitonable sexual acts!
