America - Not always the land of the free.

America – Not always the land of the free.

Many years ago there was a land far far away. Crowds chanted anti - American slogans - loudly. Years later green cards were on lottery offer. Most former members of the crowd were in a desperate struggle. They wanted to get hold of that darn US green card. Throughout the world people respect USA. Its political, economic, legal and health care systems are taken for granted. As well as its tolerance by its own citizens. Elsewhere in the world they are envied.

Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger have just been hung out to dry by the Republican party. Their crime? To query the legitimacy of those who took part in the Capitol Hill occupancy. Some Republicans were quick to distance themselves. They say it was nothing to do with Capitol hill. If not Capitol hill they are on shaky ground. They fail to be more precise on exactly what they mean.

The world does not care what party is in power. Party politics a matter for American voters. They do however care if rules are flouted. They looking with askance at the scenes televised worldwide at Capitol hill. In most countries breaking into a Government building with democratically elected officials would earn demerit points.
Try it in the Kremlin within 5 minutes’ participants would be on a lifelong bread and water diet. Freezing their socks of in Siberian dungeon with hungry rats for company. All this with no hope of reprieve. The Russians may have some not entirely bad ideas up their sleeves.

Mr. Pence’s submarine has recently just surfaced from the waters. His pronouncement:

“I have no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone”

People openly inviting themselves on Capitol Hill is an affront. The rest of us stick to the rules. We would politely knock on doors at Capitol hill. Not barge in. If requested to leave we do so. Not only as a respect to democracy but to the American flag. Even the Police Officers looked worried at the mob. No one can blame them.

The Republican party should hand their heads in shame. They should get out the history books and read the perils of the McCarthy era. They have done no favours for the virtues of democracy.

Undoubtedly Ms Cheney and Mr Kinzinger have got a raw deal.

Ps I hope Mr Pence competes in the next nomination. At least he is articulate and able to string a coherent and sensible conversation together.

I'm not seeing why this is in the Libertarian Only forum.
What do you see as libertarian issues?

“I have no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone”.
This is actually the first time I hear it in these exact words, and it is a marvel of trying to appeal to one side while really not conceding all that much to the anti-coup side of the debate.

"The American people" is a highly selective category whose contents can vary wildly depending on any given person's political alignment and news media bubble - after all, one of the rallying cries of the January 6th insurrectionists was that they were "the people", unlike all those other people who either weren't "true" Americans, or were just too afraid to say and do what they said and did.
