The vaccine and the booster

I'm not objecting to the existence of other meanings.
But I see more than one in dictionaries. And in the
context of my post, the definition I used was cromulent.

Is "cromulent" in your fancy pants stuffy old Limey wordbook?

I dont see how a misinterpreted word can ever be cromulent.

What you are saying is essentially fake news is factual.

Definitions aren't mythical when lexicographers
put them in popular dictionaries. Get with the
times, mime breath!

Latin and its use have not changed. If some people want yoake ****ing fools of themselves then good for them

Some new data....this post isn't for or against the vaccine. Its simply about new data thats out

"New data show those who recovered from Covid-19 were less likely than vaccinated to get infected during Delta wave"

"
New data released Wednesday showed that both vaccination and prior infection offered strong protection against infection and hospitalization from Covid-19 during the Delta wave — and that case and hospitalization rates were actually lower among people who had recovered from Covid-19 than among those who had been vaccinated.

The data, released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and health agencies in California and New York, are sure to inflame arguments from those who insist they don’t need to be vaccinated if they can show they’ve recovered from Covid-19. But the data contain many caveats that health officials stressed pointed to the value of vaccination, even on top of prior infection.

For one, the new report was based on data only through November, before the U.S. booster campaign really took off. It also looked at data during the Delta wave and does not account for the surging Omicron variant.

And while research has shown that infection can train the immune system to guard against the coronavirus in different ways than vaccination, Covid-19 also has killed more than 850,000 people in this country, sickened — often severely — millions more, and caused untold cases of long Covid. Serious side effects from the Covid-19 vaccines are extremely rare.

“We know that vaccination remains the safest strategy for protecting against Covid-19,” Benjamin Silk, a CDC epidemiologist, told reporters Wednesday."

The fact that this data relates to pre-booster levels of immunity from vaccination is key. The medical authorities knew that a booster was needed to give strong protection against Delta. That's why we had the booster campaign. So data showing that prior infection with the virus gives stronger protection than 2 doses only, without a booster, is not a surprise.

What is more interesting, to my mind, is what I heard from one immunologist on a BBC radio programme a couple of week ago. This was that it seems possible that immunity resulting from prior infection may give protection against a wider variety of new variants than the vaccines. This is because the vaccines trigger resistance to the spike protein specifically, which is a part that seems to change a lot from variant to variant, whereas infection with the live virus stimulates resistance to all sorts of different bits of the virus, including some that do not change much between variants.

That is not to say that getting infected with the live virus is a good idea, of course, because that risks all the nasty consequence of infection, including death and various forms of long term damage or incapacity. However those that make a full recovery from infection may be better placed to fight off further new variants than those that have only been vaccinated.

You do know the booster shot is the same as the vaccine but a lesser dose right?

"booster shots are the same ingredients (formulation) as the current COVID-19 vaccines. However, in the case of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, the dose is half of the amount of the vaccine people get for their primary series."

COVID-19 Booster Shot.

Sure, often it is, though in the UK they try to give you a different one from the first two, as that seems to give some extra benefit. But so what?
