Have you ever killed someone with kindness before?
How did they respond?
I'm above such games. I prefer to just be a dick outright.

Why? I assume that's not your character?
My character is one who openly expresses their emotions. Whether that be anger, happiness, or sadness. Some have called me a dick and/or ******* before, but that's on them.

Its entirely possible if someone is codependent (or something) to accidentally get them upset merely be being polite and them taking it for eternal bonds of friendship. In particular children can be extremely possessive of complete strangers. I encountered such a child one time and wished I hadn't been nice. I hope they are Ok. Its very strange, but you have to be careful not to be too nice to strangers, sometimes.Have you ever killed someone with kindness before?

I don't understand. How could they possibly respond if they were dead?Have you ever killed someone with kindness before?

How do you interpret that cliche?
It doesn't mean you can't express your emotion directly. Can't you kill them with happiness?
Actually once. In a YouTube comments section of all places.Have you ever killed someone with kindness before?

I understand the cliche. I may have even used the expression in the past myself. But I prefer to be more direct.
I'm with @The Hammer I don't kill folk with kindness if they are rude to me. Besides...kindness gets you in trouble at times. Better to be direct and tell them exactly what you think. Kindness makes folk think you'll tolerate their bull. Be blunt tell them you don't like them they understand you won't tolerate it. You get what you throw to me.
Ah well I interept the phrase differently. To me it means be nice to folk who are mean to you and maybe they'll one day be nice to you. But being cool headed is a good thing. It's more about feeding off the other's emotions. If someone is angry at you and you be angry right back (direct or not) that's not killing them with kindness. If they are angry and you're cool and collect (but still direct) that's killing them with kindness. Many people get angrier because you're not feeding them your emotions. You're "smarter" than that. Unless one likes being angry (or hateful and so forth), I wouldn't see why one wouldn't be kind.
That's what the phrase means.
(Unless by direct you mean that feeding off others' emotions is okay because that means being direct?)
