I'm setting up a chair, and waiting patiently for snow. It's 93f today, so this might take a minute or two...
Oh yeah, you're an Aussie, aren't you? Oh, what I wouldn't give for a little bit of Australia now. Especially Sydney. And I wouldn't even care if it was 93 degrees!

Well, I've never actually been to Melbourne, but I'm sure that if I had, that's what I would have meant!

Hah! Diplomatic answer. Sydney and Melbourne have a little bit of a friendly rivalry. They're the biggest and most famous city in Australia. We're the best city in Australia.

Canberra (our capital) was built to be basically right in the middle of the two cities, to avoid arguments. Melbourne was originally slated to be the capital (it was the largest city at the time). Both Melbourne and Sydney joined the original Federation with the assumption that they'd be the capital, Melbourne as the biggest, Sydney as the oldest/original city. Awkward!! And we'll be once again larger than Sydney within the next 30 years, although COVID might have slowed that down.

Just gotta work on the 'most famous' bit now...lol

Seriously, I would love to go to Melbourne, especially if it's even better than Sydney. Yeah, and I know all about the rivalry. I don't know that I could handle that flight again. 13 hours in a plane is NOT my idea of fun.

Ha! I've been to Scandinavia a couple of times, and from here that's roughly TWICE as far. Still, I hear you. Long flights are not exactly fun.

Forget the cities, come to Port Stephens.

That looks seriously amazing! I fell in love with Australia even though we only went to Hobart and Sydney. We're 78 and 74 now, though, and hoping to go back to Austria and Italy this coming summer. Don't know how realistic our chances of going back to Australis are, but if I could just be put into an induced coma for the duration of the flight, I might just consider it.

My wife is American and she's made the trip many times, in fact she leaves in 10 days to go visit the grand kids, her secret is valium. I haven't been there for about 10 years and don't think I could do it.

It's rough for sure, but I guess grandkids can be compelling. :)

@lewisnotmiller and @John53, Well I happen to live in a beautiful part of the world, too, so if you ever end up here on vacation, you'll have to give me a heads up and I'll meet you for lunch!

Would be a pleasure to meet you.
Life is so busy at the moment we are stuggling to even work out our next interstate holiday, much less overseas, but we like to travel, so you just never know!
