That may very well be where I'm headed if I have no other options open to get money for college, so yes, I would be more than willing. I would be serving my country, upholding a family tradition, and earning money and gaining skills in the process. If I were to join, I would probably opt for the Navy, since that was what my daddy was in, and he went all over the world and stuff. Air Force is a division of the Navy, isn't it? I wouldn't much like the Air Force, but being on a boat wouldn't be half bad. I'm not scared of the water, only heights!

The Marines are in the Department of the Navy. :)

I looked into serving when I was younger, but I've too many health issues. Right now I would not want to join because my husband is serving and I don't want strangers raising my children.

Well, I have plans to join the Peace Corps after college, but I suppose that isn't part of the military. :D

I could see myself in the Coast Guard or as a non-combatant in the army.

I'm much more likely to join/form a militia. Not that I'm opposed to the military or anything. I try to be a warrior, but I doubt they would sink low enough to put a gun in my hand when I can barely use a pencil. I'm just too shakey. I'd have trouble hitting anything. If I were capable though, I'd actually probably enlist. As it stands though, if there is ever an invasion of American soil, expect me to be in the front line.

Heh, if I lived by the border I'd probably join the Minuteman Project. Sure, it ain't military or anything close, but at least I'd be putting myself to good use for my country.

I'd think long and hard about it being a Just War. If that was the case, I'd more then likely push to be a marine. I passed up joining the Air Force to be a marine. Although I never joined, that would be where I'd sign up.

If you join the Peace Corps you may not qualify to top secret clearance for certain jobs in the military.

Nope. AF is it's own dealie. My brother was in the AF. If I had to choose, that's what I'd take.

If I could have, I would have joined the Air Force or Navy if they would have let me fly jets. I wouldn't want to be a Marine because their environments change so much. I wouldn't want to be in the Army because, well, it just doesn't seem like any fun. But the Air Force and Navy both sound interesting.

Nope, Marines are part of the Navy. Marine officers go to Annapolis, which is the Navy officer training school.

And yes, Booko is right. AF is on it's own. It was originally Army Air Corp and became the Air Force in 1947 with the National Security Act being passed.

I would join the Air Force again. :)

The Marines are a separate branchof the military as far as I know.

That status is sketchy. They are generally treated as a seperate branch but the Navy handles many of their support roles, including medical, transportation, and admin. The arguement can be made in both directions but I would say that they are just two branches that are very tightly integrated.

I tried to join the Navy. They wouldn't take me because I don't have a spleen. The recruiter actually kicked me out of the door screaming "Get out of here you spleenless b*****d!".

The truth is actually funny. I was about to sign when the recruiter asked me if there was anything else he should know about me. I remembered my surgery to remove a ruptured spleen my freshman year in high school. I told him. He jumped up, hurried over to another desk and brought back a tremendous tome of listed injuries, ailments and what not. After finding the listing for a spleenectomy he told me I was ineligible for service in any of the branches. Including the Coast Guard. Apparently it's because they think I might bleed to death. I asked him if bullet wounds might tend to cause a person to bleed to death. And besides, I was hoping to be stationed on an aircraft carrier. Bleeding to death would be one of the last of my worries. Oh well.

A week after being denied military service I called the Peace Corps. They said I lacked the experience and to call them back once I finished my degree. I started drinking shortly after that. I probably wouldn't have passed a psychological evalution anyway.

They are a seperate branch.

Yes, the Navy is the Corps' corpsmen and docs.

Devildogs do their own admin and mostly their own transport. If we need a really big boat, we call the Navy.

Marine Corps even has its own jets...
