Christianity: I'm Losing My Faith

Bezz

Hello guys, so I've been lurking around this section for a few weeks now. I've got a lot of questions on my mind and I am not getting satisfactory answers.
Does God exist? I don't know. At this point, I can't keep deceiving myself. I don't think I can call myself a Christian any more because I am starting to doubt a lot of things. If you are a Christian/believer, I have nothing against you, neither I'm I here to "deconvert" you or something.

Anyways, I just wanted to post this here, because I don't have anyone to talk to at the moment. Have a nice evening.

Then find something else bigger than you to believe in.

Dear Bezz

I’m sorry to hear that you feel you have nobody to talk to but I’m glad that you’ve chosen to reach out.

Doubt is a natural and sound aspect of the human thought-process; it points to intelligence and free-will - also within faith.

It is important to take one’s own reactions (emotional, rational and physical) seriously and to remain kind to and patient with oneself, especially when others do not seem to be.

Explore your doubts and have faith that you will find peace in the answers you finally settle for.

Hey Bezz. Welcome to Religiousforums.com. If you are having doubts about your faith, that's fine. It is a really tough time for everyone right now with the pandemic. Lots of things in the world and in our own personal lives don't make a huge amount of sense. I might be an Atheist, but I do understand and it's not easy when it's so confusing.

Christianity is more than two thousand years old do you aren't the first (or the last) to question your beliefs, so you are not alone. If you take your time to get to know Christians on here, I'm sure they will be willing to debate some of the questions you have. We also have plenty of non-believers and non-Christians on here who you can bounce your ideas off too. And, naturally as this is the internet, all of them are very, very busy coming up with the proof to show how right they are. :D

Don't feel that you have to believe something to please others or allow people to bully or manipulate you on questions as important as religion and the meaning and direction you have in life. Just remember to take your time and respect yourself and your own opinions. I hope you will stick around, find some of the answers you are looking for and will have some fun in the process. It's always good to have new people to keep the discussions fresh and relevant after all. :)

That's how I went about it.

Do it until there are enough valid reasons to simply not do it anymore.

Never looked back with any regret.

Doubts are normal.

However and at the very least Jesus teachings still stand as a great basis to set ones ethics on.

The bible is not much help if you want to discuss God. as it gives almost no information about him. so it is easy to be agnostic about his very existence.

For what ever reason the Universe did come into being, and the world has progressed to the state that we find it in to day.
You can say all this was the result of natural scientific laws. or you can say God caused it to become as it has. Or you can just take the extreme view that "God Did It" at creation. However what ever you choose to believe The reality of the world is, just as it is.

If you simply want to believe that God devised the scientific laws and just let thing run, then no harm done.
All these things are speculation with some more believable than others.

What is coming home to roost is the fact that we are interdependent with all of nature. and that we can not destroy or plunder the environment with out cost to ourselves and all other living things.

God may or may not have set us as guardians of this world. but the reality is, what we choose to do will decide its future.
In a real sense what happens is down to us. If we do not amend our behaviour we will be just another failed extinct species in the long history of the world.

At the time the USA came into being and established its constitution,. it was also a time when Religion was being reevaluated. Christianity in its various forms was by far the dominant religion in the west. Nevertheless there was a massive movement to less dogmatic beliefs. with Deism and Unitarianism and Quakerism being taken up by large sections of the leadership and population, especially amongst the more educated and upper circles of the industrial and scientific world.
There was also a surge in beliefs like Spiritualism. (we still have a spiritualist church in our town)

Like many things Religious beliefs tend to go in cycles, and the afore mentioned trend was followed by a Christian revival. which has largely waned, but has led to the formation of many modern Christian sects, including the massive evangelical super churches. that seem to be more about money and emotional hype, than Christian values.

We would seem to be at a time when the entire Religious Belief system is being reevaluated, in the light of scientific facts, historical scholarship, and the parlous state of the world.

It would seem that all religions should reevaluate themselves. and update their teachings to fall in line with modern knowledge. And purge them selves of those aspects that are clearly wrong and unbelievable. It is these disbeliefs that are causing the collapse in congregations of mainstream churches.

It is perfectly understandable that people are reflecting on their own beliefs, with a degree of agnosticism riding alongside the practice of many religions. Which for now at least is a reasonable way to go.

Hey Bezz. I'm a newbie too
I'll be honest with you: You not identifying with Christians again hasn't still solved or answer your question (Does God Exist). Even the best of atheism today still seek answers and proof to that question daily.

The questions on your heart are normal. It only showed you likely don't have those who are willing to listen to you around you, or who can answer what bothers you.

It's possible you have likely had much of wrong teaching of God around you. And that raised lot of questions that such teachers couldn't answer.

Well, if you seek answers truly. Then you should read this intelligently.

1. Your decision above doesn't solve the problem at hand nor does it answer the question you seek. Hence it is only be a distraction for you, as your heart knows you haven't gotten answers.

2. There are usually hidden concerns that underline the great question you asked. Ive observed that most who call themselves atheist have narrated unknowingly in their multitude of words such hidden concerns that drove them to atheism and mostly are from personal challenges or concerns that surround how the place you fellowship have presented God's word and promises to you or your normal desires that were never fulfilled even after you have done all that you were told was required.

3. In life, when confused, you should rather err on the side of one you know, one you have seen, and count faithful to you (your real world, your family, your people) than one who you haven't seen, nor know, nor add any value to you in life (the online world).

You can't measure the life of any here by just reading their text including me. Here you will see, liars, deceiver, good and bad etc. Yet all come in the name of helping or intelligent. But there is always a means to that end.

Err on the side of caution and patiently determine your next step.

4. And most importantly, no one can or will decide for you as am sure you can make decision by yourself. But ask yourself, what truly is driving your decisions.

Are they based on failed expectations from God?

Are they based on pressure from life and seems God wasn't there for you?

Are they based on assumptions from poor doctrine about God?

Or are they based on true desire to know the truth about God existence or non existence.

Whatever the reasons. I can confidently tell you, that the foundation is from a wrong knowledge of who God is or what he can do.

Give yourself time Bro. And ask your questions, you will find answers from the right persons.

To you. I can do God without Christianity.
Then end game is to find what works for you. You do with your God only means it works for you. But the same is true for me.

I've been a Christian since I was 28 and I don't take an offense at your position.

All I have to do is look at the design of our brain and body and have no problem to arrive to the conclusion that there must be a God to create what I see. (I can't wrap my brain around that chance created it).

What has caused you to doubt? I ask because I have found a lot of people who have had a head knowledge of God but never really gave Him their heart or situations that have been so hard, and didn't know how to apply faith, that caused their faith to shake.

Here's hoping that you find your way.

There are lots of things in life that we as individuals can not get our heads around.
They are simply not encompassed by our expertise.

However that does not mean that no one understands them, and can explain the process.
How brains and other bodily organs came to be, and their development from more primitive forms is well understood by those who study them.

It is not a case of improbable chance. as we know that they did happen so the odds turned out to be 100%
However for the same thing to happen again in the exact same way, the odds against are almost infinite.

When it comes to things that have indeed happened chance is no longer involved. What ever the possibilities there might have been. the actual out come, is the actual outcome.
Were the process to happen again the outcome would almost certainly be different, as the conditions and starting point is different.

This accounts for the wild variety of flora and fauna in the world today. all of which started from a single lifeform.

I know God did it.
I know it otherwise,
I don't know and I don't care one way or another.

So of us do the last one.

I may not agree with your positions or logic, but...

This thread is about @Bezz and the context is about what he personally is going through, so IMV debating your positions on this thread isn't the place or time. :) :heartpulse:

Or yours.
If @Bezz change, then that could be to another religion or another way of doing it differently than both our positions.

Notice you used IMV. So do I and everybody else.
