"In physics, spacetime is any mathematical model that fuses the three dimensions of space and the one dimensionof time into a single four-dimensional continuum. Spacetime diagrams can be used to visualize relativistic effects such as why different observers perceive where and when events occur.

Until the turn of the 20th century, the assumption had been that the three-dimensional geometry of the universe (its spatial expression in terms of coordinates, distances, and directions) was independent of one-dimensional time. However, in 1905, Albert Einstein based his seminal work on special relativity on two postulates: (1) The laws of physics are invariant (i.e., identical) in all inertial systems (i.e., non-accelerating frames of reference); (2) The speed of light in a vacuum is the same for all observers, regardless of the motion of the light source."

The logical consequence of taking these postulates together is the inseparable joining together of the four dimensions, hitherto assumed as independent, of space and time. Many counterintuitive consequences emerge: in addition to being independent of the motion of the light source, the speed of light has the same speed regardless of the frame of reference in which it is measured; the distances and even temporal ordering of pairs of events change when measured in different inertial frames of reference (this is the relativity of simultaneity); and the linear additivity of velocities no longer holds true."

I believe that ultimately there is only the eternal now. Of course, this understanding won't help you if you're late for the theatre.

Maybe you just need to think more quickly. :D
I totally agree!...We make the mistake that time is passing. Time is not real! It is always 'now' in my opinion. Change is what is in motion, constant change is taking place. Space is in motion, we have no sensual perception of our planet in motion. The entire universe is in motion but we all know that. It's always time to make the donuts ! :)

`Time` is a memory just as one thinks it !

And it is gone, but for the memory of it's passing.

Among what is indispensable for the seeker is that you should observe and take account of your carnal soul (muhasabat al-nafs) and pay close attention to your inner thoughts and impulses (khawatir) at every moment of time. After doing so, you should feel shame in your heart before God. For if you are ashamed before God, then He will prevent your heart from experiencing a thought or impulse that is contrary to the revelation (shar') or from carrying out any action displeasing to Him/Right (al-Haqq). - Ibn Arabi

Yes. And?

Please let us consider the notion of an absolute definable "now" as being incorrect. All observers are not governed by a single continuous ticking cosmic clock There is no universal clock whereby everybody can agree on what was the past and what is the future. Stacking 2-D slices of time in succession, time becomes three dimensional. Every slice is the same universe at a given moment, it evolves from one slice to the next. We experience one slice at a time, and think of the universe as the one currently existing. However, from the perspective outside space and time, the structure of the universe exists without a particular direction, and there is no preferred present. A flow of time is only observed if slices of time are sequentially played like a flip-book.

That I do not know :)

When Ibn Arabi said "every moment in time", it was a plan.

Think about it. When you say "this moment", you are always speaking of the past moment. You are talking about the memory of what already happened. But when you speak of "every moment" as in the future, it is always a plan. What you are planning to do. It is never actually current in the actual meaning of the word, but when you use the word current, it is always what happened and whats going to happen or what you think will happen.

Amazing isn't it!

This is also why I ask the question in the OP :)

Among what is indispensable for the seeker is continually being aware of (the correspondence between) one's inner thoughts and impulses and the (spiritual demands of) every moment of time. - Ibn Arabi
I am already aware of this, but the OP is for others to answer Because there are different understandings of what a moment is, and what time is.

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
The moment of actualization is the present if you pay attention. Pressing a button, and feeling the quick press is a good way to recognize the present.

So if time is real it's moving us present moment to present moment. Your present self don't exist in the past, and yet to exist in the future. We can't escape the present if you think about it.

We are locked into a present moment always present going forward present to present.

What are you saying brother? Seems like I should just stop making any comments. No worries. ;) I shall put you on ignore since you have something in the back of your mind so that even by mistake I will not respond. Ciao.

Peace.

My other answers means, all people including you can answer this OP, but the intention of the OP was to get to listen to what other people think about what "Present moment" means, and so far you have not answered what your own understanding of it is. You answered what Ibn Arabi has said. But what is your, understanding of the question in the OP?

It is your choice if you wish to ignore me

Sorry to say this but I think you are too intent on saying something rather than reading the post. I find that strange.

What I said is my own opinion, and that is not what Ibn Arabi is saying, and the quote is just to show you how its used.
