Arms Race With China?

Is the US in or headed to an arms race with China?
According to Jen Psaki the US welcomes stiff competition with China.
This sort of reads like an arms race to me.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It could be an arms race.

Unfortunately if this do nothing administration stays it's present course, based on what I have come across, that there's a real danger that China could get into a position of superiority in as little as a few decades.

Particularly involving open ai advancements to which I agree with Elon Musk and the late Stephen Hawkings that it arguably well passes the dangers of nuclear arms in terms of usability and deployment.

China certainly wants to surpass the US in military power. Personally if appropriate security could be put in place, I'd ask the private sector to work on the hypersonic missile capability based on what we've seen in various space efforts. We'd get there much faster and at much lower cost.

Feels that way from here. The recent about face from Australia on desired submarine capability (from conventionally-powered French designs to nuclear-powered US designs) was directly due to agreements between Australia and the US (and UK) on strategic requirements over the coming 25 years.

An arms race and an economic race, which may not harm USA but will harm weaker nations. They will become client states to China like North Korea, Pakistan, Myanmar or Combodia (I am not sure of this). China holds rights to many raw materials around the world. They have money to spend, their foreign exchange reserve is in the region of USD 3300 billion. BTW, India's is USD 620 billion, USA is with around USD 200 billion.

China invests 9% of its GDP in infrastructure. Biden and the Democrats are working to get investment in our nation, and republicans have no interest in that. If we want to compete with China we need to invest.

USA and Europeans are singing different tunes. Synchronization is necessary to stop China to become the future USA.

They're "headed" nowhere, they're already there. The American military-industrial complex needs dough, after all.

I wouldn't mind China becoming us.
But alas, it operates very differently.
Sure, we have a violent ineffective foreign policy.
But China is still in conquering & acquisition mode.
And its government is far far more authoritarian.
So becoming like us would be an improvement.
And finally, I'd like to see Ameristan improve.

Thankfully, Modi stands ready with his nuclear arsenal to "sing" and "synchronize".
I do not know what your 'sing' and 'synchronize' includes. I am a Modi supporter. I feel, India is safe with Modi. We have our small arsenal (Google reports 155, 10 less than Pakistan, but enough for deterrent purposes), various other things (Nuclear capable Agni V, operational; MIRVs under development), and determination. That has stopped China in its tracks in Ladakh. We also have to mold our foreign policy according to challenges that we face. That is why Quad 1 (India, Japan, Australia and US) and Quad 2 (India, Israel, UAE and US). India is not a 'walk-over' for any country.

Agni V
(We are developing Agni VI, range 11-12.000 Km. We really do not need it for a war. Have problems with China and Pakistan like many other countries. It is only a by-product of our space programs)

India

Agni-P (Under trials, tested with 2 warheads).
Agni-V (MIRV capability planned, existing ability suspected)
Agni-VI (Under development)
K-5 (Submarine, Under trials, MIRV demonstration pending)
K-6 (missile)(Under development)

Yes, Modi's voice sings brightly in the choir of nuclear annihilation.

Of course, not. But unfortunately, we have two belligerent neighbors. We need to take care. Pakistan has had four wars with us. China usurped a part of Indian territory in 1962. Had it not been for China, we would not have developed the bomb as well as the missiles. But then, the Chinese had their own compulsions to develop bombs and missiles. Now having tasted power, they like it.

Why not brag some more about Modi's nuclear arsenal? You should be proud that your country can kill several million people at once with the press of a button. Regrettable, of course; but also Strength worth bragging! Mass murder - that is the true hallmark of national prowess!

If you see bragging where there is none (just an
explanation of his country's experience), then
could it be jealousy fueled by your own country's
military impotence & dependence upon western
allies for defense?

That is an unfortunate necessity and not the hallmark of progress. The hallmark of progress will be removal of poverty. That also continues with interruptions like Covid-19.

And yeah, US and West are friends, but they have their own interests. India cannot wholly depend on them. We have to make our own deterrent. We have 1400 million people and a culture to protect. I do not know which country Kooky belongs to.

Of course, it's all so regrettably necessary, just like all the other nuclear arsenals capable of murdering the Earth's population several times over, so regrettable that nations are being forced at gunpoint to pour billions into weapons that exist solely to destroy massive numbers of civilians! The nations regret it so much that they are bragging about their nuclear prowess at any opportunity in internet forums and social meda the world over. Right?

The hallmark of progress will be removal of poverty.
But nukes, of course, have to come first. Gotta make sure to one up the Enemy, after all.
