Gaslighting

Psalm23

Have you ever been gaslighted by someone? Are there spiritual forms of gaslighting that brings self doubt?

Spiritually, no. Growing up, yes. The aftermath still affects me today.

What are spiritual forms of gaslighting?

I guess gaslighting in a spiritual context such as if a religious leader is doing it or using Scripture to manipulate someone. I’m not sure I understand gaslighting completely. It seems to be a way to make someone question their perception or memory or make one feel like they’re going crazy. If you are given a suggestion that can’t trust yourself or can’t know what is in your heart( such as your beliefs, motives, values etc), could that be considered gaslighting?

No personal gaslighting but political gaslighting - yes.

Gaslighting is using lies and deception - there's nothing spiritual about it.

I mean gaslighting used in a spiritual context such as if religion is involved or a spiritual leader is doing the gaslighting. I agree though, it isn’t a spiritual thing to do to a person.

The definition of "gaslighting" as I see it
used on the internet.
One says something that another
(usually a feminist) disagrees with.

I lived with someone who gaslighted me on just about everything. It was awful.

I'm not sure it worked on a spiritual level, though. He could convince me that I was a useless piece of garbage, but he was never able to get me to turn from my religious convictions(though he wanted to).

I’m sorry you experienced that.

One time I got gaslighted by somebody. They had the TV on too loud. I would come out and ask if they'd turn it down. They'd say sure and turn it down in front of me, then turn it back up when I left the room. They did this several times in a row. For some reason this triggered a kind of distrust that I've never felt before, and I don't think that this can ever be fixed. I don't think I'd trust them with a knife or sharp object around me.

***edit***
I forgot to mention. Then later on when I was talking with someone else about the TV being too loud this person said "Just ask me to turn it down if its too loud."

That has been my experience as well, just like when democrats claimed requiring ID to vote is racist. Also when people claim personal stories and experiences about negative reactions to covid vaccines is misinformation, happens all the time.

I see - the Humpty Dumpty approach to the meaning of words.

To get down to it, it's trump and the maga types who say they did not say what they said, did not do what they did in spite of it being said and done.
