Gil Ofarim rudely requested to hide Star of David pendant before checking into German hotel

I don't know whether this made it to world news.

Israeli-German rock singer Gil Ofarim was told by a receptionist of a German hotel in Leipzig to hide the "star of David" pendant Ofarim was wearing. Only then the receptionist would have allowed him to check in.

Protests grow after singer says German hotel refused him over Star of David

Investigations have been opened on the case.

The receptionist filed a counter-complaint against Ofarim, stating that Ofarim had "slandered" him.

Gil Ofarim is the son of Abi Ofarim, who had a couple of hit singles in the 1960's with his wife, Esther.

Sounds like silly tiff. Or perhaps an attempt at getting oneself some attention? Who knows? Who cares?

In Germany, preventing anti-semitism is one of the holy cows of politics. Maybe other countries have different priorities. :shrug:

Wouldn't surprise me if it turned out Ofarim was lying. Israelis do a lot of dumb stuff when visiting foreign countries. There was an Israeli a number of years ago who came to Germany and visited I think the Reichstag? and posed there for a picture holding his arm out as though doing the Nazi salute. :facepalm: Police arrested him pretty quickly.

Anyone remembers the news story from autumn 2021, in which German-Israeli singer Gil Ofarim posted a video on social media he claimed that an employee in the lobby of the Westin Hotel in Leipzig (Germany) had asked him to take off his Star of David necklace?

Investigations by the public prosecutor's office (analysis of video surveillance from the hotel lobby) have now revealed that the story did not take place as Gil Ofarim described it (apparently he didn’t visibly wear a Star of David necklace) The investigations against the employee in question have been discontinued. The latter, in turn, filed a criminal complaint against Ofarim for defamation and false suspicion. The Leipzig Regional Court must now determine whether to allow this complaint.

I didn't remember but I agree with what my past self said about Ofarim making this up. Seems extremely likely.
