Rats in the house?

Open the door and throw in a big tom cat. Award the winner with a treato_O

But seriously they are filthy animals that do carry disease. Maybe call pest control to get rid of it and check for others(a nest).
I think you'd do better with a small terrier or a couple of ferrets. Cat's aren't reliable ratters.

Rats are as clean as any other animal, and any animal can harbor disease. I daresay Riders' risk of disease from human contact outweighs the risk from a few rats, squirrels or

If the local rats were carrying some disease, it would probably already have become news.

Well, I had an exterminator come by. today. I've got so many holes in the house with crawl space so the rats can get in and work that needs to be done on the house first before he can exterminate that it will be way too expensive for me to get done. So my sister is trying to get me out by November. Hopefully, I'll be out by October or November. I'll tough it out till then.
Plugging holes can be a fun exercise in home improvement. I've done it with roach infestations several tomes -- successfully, I might add. :)

Evidently you haven't been around many big country toms.
I agree, any animal can carry disease.

From the title I thought this thread would be about the Democrats in the House of Representatives.

Well, the exterminators came out and I have bad news. My house has so many holes all over it outside and the freezer vent is coming apart and it needs a rat wall that the construction work they'd have to do just to get it to where it is good enough to exterminate would run me 2500 dollars. I can't pay it and this house is basically falling apart. The only solution is to get out. My sister is going to see if she can bump up my move to her garage apartment to October or November...till then I will have to tough it out with the rats..

God bless you. That's a terrible situation. Maybe some organization can help you.

Thanks but getting an order in this house won't work. The outside is faing apart with a ton of crawl space so the rats can get in the house. Only my sister and brother-in-law can fix it.

My sister is sending an exterminator who will put the rat poison out regardless of all the holes and crawl space we have. Don't worry about the rats being killed I doubt it will work the other guys said they needed to fill up all the holes and build a rat wall first. I hope my cat does not get into the poison. She said they're working to get me out of here by the end of October yay!!

Well, my cat Cali has been chasing a few of them out of the kitchen and into the back bedroom. So I wanted to find out if my cat could get rid of rats and did a search on it and found an article. It says rats are so allergic or scared of cats that they will not go into the room here a cat stays a lot of his time. If it's been marked with the cat rubbing up against stuff and a cat stays there a lot it will not come into that room!

That would be the living room that I live in and Cali stays close to me. So apparently there are no safety issues here, the rats should by nature stay away from me and my personal space. God bless Cali! I also think she will eventually run them all back into the walls and the back bedrooms she chases them sometimes.

So I am working on getting into old folks' home if I can't get in for some reason I should be safe here till the end of October when my new apartment will be ready for me.

Ok, so I found out more about the one rat I see all the time. I thought all rats were nocturnal I read it wrong. I never see them in the daytime they only come out at night. Regular rats come out in the daytime. But my rat apparently is a roof rat. He has a nest probably in the roof or attic and sleeps all day in the daytime in the nest and only comes out at night.

Even though they seem less dangerous they are not. They have diseases and can leave diseases in the kitchen where the food is and can leave diseases there that kill. It also has sharp teeth that can naw through wires and start fiires. Interesting though so I have figured out what he or she is. So there's probably got a nest in the attic where he sleeps in the daytime.

They are not roof rats! I wondered why the picture of the roof rats didn't have white faces but thought it didn't matter. My home health aid ran into one yesterday. She says it's an opposum, not even a rat. They all have white faces and are gentler than rats. They don't run at me or attack me and usually are skittish with me and afraid.

But they still have a lot of diseases that can make me sick so they are still dangerous. They can also gnaw through stuff.

They are nocturnal and come out at night only and have white faces.

How could you not recognize an opossum? They are not as bad as rats in my opinion but I still would not want them in my house.

You could always give it a nice relaxing massage

You don't want one of these in your house

Intrduced into france, they are as big a large domestic cat and can kill. Their bites/saliva contains bacterial toxins. I know of two local people who have died of ragondin (or coypu) bite

I've had possums come through the kitty door and end up living in my piano, I don't consider them pests like rats, I'd be less concerned about them, just don't let them bite you.
