It's a good plant. It still stings.
it's the only plant that makes it's presence clear. when i was a kid and saw this plant i marked the area in my head and just stood next to the area not to touch the plant. the area belonged to the plant.

Not clear enough, lol. Maybe it should shout next time.

Like I did brushing up against it.

I still remember being stunned and shocked as a child by such an innocent looking plant having such a nasty sting. I don't even remember what part is spikey, I don't even remember how bad it exactly hurt, I just remember it hurt and I've avoided them since.

The very first time I saw the plant, I didn't know what it is. When I touched the leaf it hurt a lot. That was it. It's presence since then became strong.

These are very common in the UK. Not sure how common they are in the US or other places.

Yeah it's got a bit of a sting for sure. Got my whole left calf/back of knee and ankle. Gonna be a fun night haha.

Poison ivy is my nemesis.
I keep a keen wary eye out for it,
spotting it before other people do.

You become desensitised over time. The venom isn't really harmful (in fact it helps with rheumatism) so your body is practically overreacting as with an allergy. Your immune system "learns" that it's harmless over time (and forgets it over the winter).

They're common in the PNW where I am. They like moist, wet environments, and we certainly get that here with all the rain.

They were common in Minnesota where I grew up. I guess I do not get out in the country enough since seeing a nettle plant is a rarity for me. And avoiding them became second nature eventually.
