I think Easter, the rebirth, the covenant come to life. The joy after the sorrow of lent and Holy week is great!

My second would be Christmas, the beginning of the story. Also, a great time for family stuff!

Easter/Ostara - I know they are not the same thing, and I don't celebrate either as the followers of their respective religions would. But there's just something about that Spring celebration of re-birth, the Earth coming back to life, to me it symbolizes a new beginning and triumph over death (winter). I love all the natural imagery associated with it, such as, flowers, bunnies, baby chicks. There is an innocence of life that only happens in the Spring, and we should celebrate that.

Also, I have good memories of Easter from my childhood. Yeah, Christmas was great, but even children know it is a stressful time, and Easter is less so. At least it was for me.

3. Pesach or Passover - I love the seder dinner and what it represents, deliverance from oppression, justice, community...

2. Vernal equinox (call it whatever you want) - I can't wait for winter to be over. It's friggin 18 degrees out, and below zero with windchill. Seriously, even when it isn't freezing, the recognition of the first day of spring is my favorite of the quarter celebrations. The affirmation of new life. (I love all four quarters tho.)

1. Yom Kippur - a time set asside to self-reflect, make amends and forgive so that you are in right relations with God and with community for the coming year. What can I say? The Jews do religious holidays right.

I would have to say Easter. After all it is the rebirth of Jesus Christ, who gave his life for his people.
Plus, unlike Christmas, this Christian holiday has not been completely lost in commercialized nonsense...I mean don't get me wrong, I like wreaths and christmas trees and all that jazz, but too many people idolize possessions rather than celebrating Jesus and all that he did for us.

I like lots of religious festivals, but I think my favourite is probably The Day of the Dead (though now I put it down into writing I am suddenly unsure whether it is a religious festival or not. If it is I guess I've never done anything religious connected to it, but I love the idea of honouring the dead, and the symbolism that goes with it), though it doesn't get celebrated in many places.
